Non-spellcasting Area and Swords Of Revealing Light

It might be obvious (and maybe I'm thinking into things too much), but if your opponent has Swords Of Revealing Light active on the field while you have Non-spellcasting Area active on the field as well, any of your monsters (excluding effect monsters) should be able to attack regardless of the effect of SoRL. True or otherwise?

Hi Otakunonamae !!!

Sorry that combo won't work.

When your opponent has Swords of Revealing Light in play...it is YOU who is unable to declare an attack...it has nothing to do with your monsters. So a non-effect monster (with Non Spellcasting Area in play) will still be unable to attack your opponent...since you can't declare an attack.

The same thing applies when I have Horus the Black Flame Dragon Level 6 and my opponent has Swords of Revealing Light out. Yes, my Horus dragon is immune to spells; but it cannot attack since I, as the player, am unable to declare an attack.

Hope that helps.

From the judge group file (hasn't made it to the UDE FAQ):

1) Would Normal Monsters be unaffected by The Dark Door (ie still
attack if another monster attacked)?

2) Would Normal Monsters be able to attack the turn they were
summoned if Vengeful Bog Spirit is on the field?

3) Would a player still have to pay to attack with a Normal Monster
if Toll was on the field?

4) Can Normal Monsters still attack if the opponent has Swords of
Revealing Light or Messenger of Peace out?

Answer:

1. Normal Monsters would be unaffected and can still attack.

2. They would be unaffected and can still attack that same turn.

3. They don't have to pay.

4. Yes, they can still attack.

If my opponent has SORL on the field and I summon Horus LV6 to
the field, would SORL effect not work on Horus since he is unaffected
by spells? (I thought I remembered reading a similiar ruling a while
ago about Legendary Fisherman saying that SORL would not stop him so
I would assume the same would work for Horus LV6.)

Answer:

The "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV6" would still be able to attack.

The rulings are quite similar for these two cards because their effects are
quite similar. (unaffected by Spell Cards)

Whoa...if Somewan is right then I am wrong  (which is very possible).

Somewan...could you please post the Message #s from the Yahoo Judges' List for so I can reference these myself?

EDIT: nevermind Somewan, I found the Horus one (it was message # 10871...thanx anyway)

OK, UDE told us that Level 3 judges are required to make one rulings mistake per week...so to avoid the appearance of omniscience.

(yeah, right   :D)

Seriously though, according to our evil Ojama netrep, what Somewan said is absolutely correct and I am 100% wrong.

Otakunonamae, I'm sorry if I confused you..here's the CORRECT answer:

You have Non-Spellcasting area in play, your normal non-effect monsters may still attack through your opponent's Swords of Revealing Light.

And as a side note, if you have the Level 6 Horus Dragon in play, it can still attack throught your opponent's Swords of Revealing Light.

Thanks Somewan for correcting me...I learned something new today because of you (and no day is ever a waste when you learn something you haven't known about before).

It's all good. I also act as a sort of 'judge' where I play (usually at home), and people ask me about rulings all the time. And, most times I get things wrong than I get right. :p Your last statement is strongly applied here also.
