guess what?
hey guys i just started playing vs. for about 2 weeks now and i was wondering if there is a ban list like in yu-gi-oh or something like that and where could i find the list if there is one, also i wanted to know if concealed characters can attack not sure if i was looking in the right FAQ on the UDE site but it didn't say they can't attack

Apparently they have this whole age thing going on.

Golden = all sets
Silver = last 4 sets
Modern = Last 2 sets

So basicly with a tournament at any one time you can use everything from the latest 2 sets and sometimes a bit more depending on the tournament

As for concealed characters its like this.

Concealed characters can attack visible characters. Concealed characters cannot be attacked even by other concealed characters unless an effect specifically states that they can. If the only guys on your field are concealed your opponent attacks your endurance directly.

Oh yeah and this game looks sweet. i just gotta get money to get me some cards. i only started looking into this game about a week ago myself. Its so easy to pick up and learn but seems very tricky when ya get a little advanced in it. Lots of fun by the looks of things.

cool thx for the info, but i got another question where can u find the packs for sale cuz i found out that gamestop had a bunch of old packs (thx to me they got no more :grin_jedi) but i haven't seen any other place that has had them

Im afraid youre gonna have to ask someone else there. Shops that sell it round here are few and far between. I only know of one confirmed place that sells them near me and i dont think youre gonna come to ireland to buy some...... Ya wouldnt get many anyway.

try googling them and maybe buying them online.

also another question can u play plot twists and locations as soon as u set them or do u have to wait to chain it to something like in yu-gi-oh

you can play them at any time as long as you can pay thier costs and meet thier threshold, and you have priority... So, lets say you have a location with a threshold of 2. If you use it as your 2nd resource you can flip it over right after you lay it as your resource.

Don't forget, there is on;y one banned card in the whole of VS. And that's Overload. Did you check out my VS Basics thread in VS Guides? <Shameless Plug>

wow thx found out some things i didn't know but i have a question on a card called purple man he has an activate effect where u KO one of ur resources, then move a face down resource ur opponent controls to ur resource row then they put the top card of their deck in the resource row. now my question is what if they activate the face down resource do i get to try again with purple man or does purple man get exhausted still

Yes, he remains exhausted. Any power with the arrow ":vs_arrow_" is a payment power. The cost is whatever is before the arrow. Just like in Yu-Gi, the cost happens before the effect is placed on the chain and is non-refundable.

If you were able to ready Purple Man somehow, you could do it again, since there is no "once per turn" restriction placed on his effect.

sorry to bug u guys again but i got 2 more questions. ok first off where does it tell u that overload is banned, cuz my friend uses it (just started like me) and i need poof and second would decreasing a characters attack be considered powering up since it's still an attack and defense modifier

http://entertainment.upperdeck.com/op/vs_rules/news.aspx
Scroll down to 6/14/05 where it says:
The following card has been banned from Golden Age constructed play starting July 1, 2005: Overload

Powering-up a character requires you to discard a character card with same name as your character that's engaged in combat. This is always a +1 ATK/+1 DEF modifier. No more, no less.

Your probably thinking of certain effects that power-up a character, like Oberon from the JLI:
"Activate :vs_arrow_ Power-up target attacker or defender you control."
This is still a +1 ATK/+1 DEF modifier. That never changes. No other increases or decreases to a character's ATK and DEF is a power-up. Only the discard process I described and effects that say "power-up".

ohhhh alright i was reading the summary of FAQ terms wrong ok never mind then and does anybody know of any good sites to buy vs. boxs or should i go to ebay

Ebay I find is the best place to get boxes online, usually the cheapest. I also buy from http://www.herotown.com, they are located in NJ and have a legitimate store front, I go there whenever I'm in that area.

ok got another question about combat, when u declare ur attack do u exhaust ur character then play plot twists and etc. or do u play all ur plot twists before and after ur done with all the chaining u exhaust ur character cuz i was wondering if i could attack with a character with an activate effect and then find out that i won't be able to stun the character so could i use the activate effect to make the attack dissappear

oh and what r some good spider-friends cards that aren't in the web of spidey set cuz i got a box of that coming

You first declare the attack, if your opponent says the attack is legal your character will exhaust and gain the attacker characteristic. So, if for instance you say I declare and attack on Dr. Doom, at this point your character is still ready. Your opponent at this point can chain effects to you declaring the attack. So, your opponent now decides to play mystical paralysis exhausing Dr. Doom to exhaust your proposed attacker, your proposed attacker will exaust and therefore making your attack illegal so it doesn't happen. If your opponent does nothing then your character will exhaust and the attack starts. At this point you and your opponent can then chain more effects if you or him have any. For instance you opponent can try to bounce the attack by playing acrobatic dodge.

It makes a differnce if the effect you just played will only make the current attack illegal but not take away that character's ability to attack again.

yeah i got two questions cuz some guy that plays told me and i haven't seen anything about them in the rules. ok first he said if a player does a mulligan the other player(s) get draw a card and then he said there was some cost to activate the boast effect on characters, now to me the first rule he said seemed like it could be true but thats cuz i've never played a card game where u could mulligan ur first hand and the second i'm pretty sure that its not true

NO WAY! That is completely false.

The only cost to boost is the boost resource cost and any other cost the card may have will be printed on it. So, if you play a character with a cost of 2 and a boost 2, you can only play him on turn 4 because you need 4 resource points, 2 for his cost and 2 for the boost.
