patrician of darkness

okay guys i need some help...
im so confused with Patrician of Darkness effect....
so heres a situation
(player1)
has a Berserk Gorilla and a Dark Magician
(player2)
has a Patrician of Darkness and Vampire Lord...
(player1)
attacks Patrician of Darkness with Dark Magician

now heres the question can Patrician of Darkness redirect the attack to my Berserk Gorilla? or does he have to redirect the attack to one of his monsters?

i think he has to select one of his own monsters because that would be to good of an effect.
im confused because at school i was dueling a guy with a zombie deck he kept redirecting my attack to my own monsters so thats why im confused.

No, you can not attack your own monster, so your opponent would not be able to re-direct to your monster.

"¢ For this card's effect, the chosen attack target must still be legal. You cannot force a monster to attack directly if it normally cannot, or force a monster to attack a monster on its own side of the field.
