Phantom of Chaos and D-hero dogma

im a bit confused....lets say i were to use phantom of chaos' effect to remove d-hero dogma from play- i know phantom of chaos would gain the attack, but would my opponent's life points be halved their next standby phase? (b/c of dogma's effect) ?

no, because in order for dogma's effect to trigger, he needs to be face up during your opponent's standby phase.

and before your opponent's standby phase, the end phase has already occured, meaning phantom has lost dogma's stats and effect.

it'd go like this:

YOUR TURN:
main 1/2: phantom is face up on your field.
remove from play dogma.
phantom of chaos now mimics dogma
end phase: phantom's effect ends, returning him to ATK 0 / DEF 0, without a copied effect

OPPONENT'S TURN:
draw phase: opponent draws a card
standby phase: nothing happens since dogma is no longer face up on the field

Not to mention Destiny Hero - Dogma's effect depends upon it being Special Summoned, for its effect to say, "right, in that case I'm going to trigger in the next Standby Phase". That means the monster must have the effect when it is Special Summoned. Destiny Hero - Dogma obviously has its own effect at that time, but Phantom of Chaos doesn't. As far as Phantom of Chaos is concerned, its Summon happened ages ago, and has no bearing on whatever effect it's stolen. It's something like Phantom of Chaos versus Monarch monsters, in that while you can steal the effect, it won't do anything.

And I'd forgotten about the point you made. I would have rechecked the card text before answering anyway, and I would have spotted it and mentioned it as well, but looking at the topic title I immediately thought of my point and was just going to argue that.

haha, same.

i thought i was familiar enough with both cards to answer the question, and since (in my head) i had a definitive answer, i wouldn't bother double checking.

so, sorry inuyasha_riku for making a hasty ill-prepared response.

Hey, it's perfectly correct in itself, and a much clearer way of explaining why it doesn't work. I just added in the more subtle reason to complete the answer - I think not as many people would understand that it's a kind of delayed trigger effect tied to the Summon.

But yes, end of topic, methinks ^_^

The only thing I would like to add to this thread is.....Everybody, please, note the genuine humility and respect that these two have shown to each other. This is what makes COG the incredible site that it is! Gentlemen.....you have my respect and thanks!
