if i have protector of the sanctuary face up on the field and i activate mind wipe does my opponent suffel in there hand and not draw any cards or do they have to draw the cards for mind wipe to be activated

You would not be able to activate Mind Wipe if Protector of the Sanctuary is on the field. Generally speaking, if a Spell/Trap effect has a drawing effect as part of it, you cannot activate it if Protector of the Sanctuary is active.

Are you sure about this? This question came up in a game, and the interpretation given was along the lines of:

Pot of Greed - you can activate it, but the effect of drawing cannot occur. There is nothing to stop the activation, just the resolution.

Heavy Slump, Disturbance Strategy and their ilk - the drawing of cards is not the effect as such, but the cost (to the opponent) of those cards. You cannot stop the payment of a cost, so yes they shuffle cards into their deck, and yes they draw two cards.

It made sense when explained to me - not sure if I can get it out in the same way now. So I guess I add an opinion to the thread:

- Cards like Pot of Greed can be activated, but you get nothing.

I also add a question:

- Was the explanation of 'Disturbance Strategy' and their ilk correct?

Please - no 'yes' 'no' answers - something in full would be good!!

The controller of Protector of the Sanctuary is not prevented from activating card effects that allow him to draw, but he may not activate a card effect that includes both players, like Card Destruction.

The opponent may still activate cards that do not immediately cause him to draw, like Mirage of Nightmare, because the effect has not activated/triggered yet and the card is a continuous effect. He will be unable to draw when the effect does trigger, as long as Sanctuary is face-up.

You cannot activate Pot of Greed since it causes you to draw 2 cards immediately.

The controller of Sanctuary cannot activate Disturbance Strategy or other cards that force his opponent to draw cards.

The only time your opponent can respond to the effect of a card that causes him to draw is a monster effect, but he still cannot draw cards if that is a requirement, like with Sasuke Samurai #3, Bistro Butcher, Morphing Jar.
