i keep reading that you don't pay the cost for activating a spell
when using diamond dude's effect can some one please explain why this.
because diamond dude's effect is.
while this card is face up on the field, once per turn you can look at the top card of your deck. if the card is a normal spell card, send it to graveyard and you can activate the spell card during the main of your next turn.if the card is not a normal spell card, place it on the bottom of your deck.

the underlined bit says you can activate the spell card.
it doesn't say activate effect of the normal spell card.

so you shoud still have to pay the cost of activating the card.
like lightning vortex you would still need to discard a card to pay the cost of activtion.
Burst stream of destruction would still need a
blue eyes white dragon on the field to pay the cost of activation.

If you look at page 36 of the 5.0 rulebook, you'll find under "Pay a Cost", that you must actually pay the cost first before you actually activate the Spell card.

We all keep thinking that when you activate the Spell card, you have to pay the cost and then the effect goes through. Costs are actually paid first before the card is officially activated. That's why you never get a refund of costs when the card is negated.

So remember when you "play" a Spell card, costs are paid first, then you activate the card effect.

If DH-DD said "play" the normal Spell card, then we would have to pay costs; since it says "activate the Normal Spell card", we get to bypass costs.

Remember, some normal Spell cards such as "Metamorhposis" will not work with DH-DD because the cost was not paid leaving us no frame of reference or monster level to complete the effect.

i know that you pay the cost first then you activate the card.
thats what i'm getting at if you don't pay the cost of discarding a card or paying life or the right card being you shouldn't be able to activate the spell card.

diamond dude's effect lets you once per turn look at the top card of your deck and if it's normal spell card send it to the graveyard
and you can activate the normal spell card during your next main phase.

when you want to play monster reincarnation you discard a card to acctivate it then you get a monster back.

so lets say i use diamond dude's effect and look at my top card and it's lightning vortex so it's goes to the graveyard.
then my opponent has there turn.
the i draw and i want to play lightning vortex but it has a cost
so i discard a card an acctivate lightning vortex from my graveyard.

destiny hero diamond dude is good for thining the deck but from the text on the card it doesn't seem to bypass the activation cost.

But it does. Think of the cost as the key to unlocking the box. Inside the box is the effect.

When a spell is sent to the Graveyard, the box got tossed in, smashed, and the effect was just laying there. Diamond Dude doesn't need the key (cost) to get the effect now. He just needs to pick it up out of the Graveyard.

o.k i think i'm getting it.
but can some please explain why the cost dissapears.

The Cost and Effect of a spell card (or any card for that matter) are two different things, and Diamond Dude is only doing the 'effect' part of a spell card, meaning that any costs that a spell has, you would not have to pay them. Diamond Dude isn't truly activating the card, but rather activating the effect of it.

thanks for clearing that up.
but it realy should state that in the cards text that it activates the effect of the normal spell and not say that it's activating the normal spell card which in some cases would require some kind of cost to be payed.

Yeah, you don't acutally "play" that normal spell card, but instead Diamond Dude's monster effect plays it for you. So it pretty much converted into monster effect ignition effect rather then a spell effect. And it was activated the turn it send that spell card to the graveyard from your deck, not when it actually does something next turn.

If I'm not mistaken, it's because it is in the Graveyard, so don't have to pay the cost to put in on the field. You're not taking it from your hand and putting in on the field to activate it. (See why it's important not to "play" your cards to the Graveyard?)
