Question on Peten

how does peten actaully work.

i know when its sent you can bring out another by removing the one just sent out of play, but when exactly does the effect work.

I hear that if you tribute Peten, then its effect dont work. but wouldnt tributing it mean that its beign sent to the graveyard? hence being allowed to use its effect.

This has been debated on another thread and I'm hoping we don't restart the debate so here's the short answer:

"Peten the Dark Clown"'s effect is optional so therefore it must be the last thing to occur in a chain. So if he gets killed in battle, or destroyed with Dark Hole, etc. then you can use his effect.

However if he's offered for "Cannon Soldier" (last thing to occur is opponent taking damage), or a tribute (last thing to occur is a monster comes to the field), then the window to use his effect passed and you can't activate it.

Basically, Peten's effect is optional, so in order for peten's effect to work, Peten being sent to the GY must be the last thing that happens.

Using Peten for tribute won't work because the last thing that happended is a monster was tribute summoned.

Using Peten as a discard from Painful Choice, and Painful Choice is the last chain link to resolve, then the last thing that happens is Peten is sent to the GY. Now, you can use his effect.

ah okay, this works out fine. so the status is that it must be the last thing in the chain in order for it to even occur. okay this clears alot of stuff up.


so lets say, i use it with deck Destruction Virus of Death. i wont be allowed to bring out another because the last thing that happens is all the monsters in my opponens side and hand getting deatroyed.

okay this works.
