rare value and diamond dude

with the new set becomming lega soon and people running ddt i figured i might as well clear this up before i get asked

Rare Value

FOTB-EN033 (Normal Spell)

[Activate only when there are 2 or more "Crystal Beast" cards in your Spell & Trap Card Zone. Your opponent selects 1 "Crystal Beast" card in your Spell & Trap Card Zone and sends it to the Graveyard. Then you draw 2 cards.]

If there are no "Crystal Beast" cards in Spell & Trap Card Zone when this card resolves, you cannot draw 2 cards.

can a player get the effect of rare value by using diamond dude and having no crystal beast's in the spell and trap zone?

Wow... I remember answering this question back when the OCG got the card.

Since the opponent selecting 1 Crystal Beast to send it to the Graveyard is part of the effect, if there are no Crystal Beasts in your S/T zone, you won't be able to draw any cards, just like the ruling says. The only thing Diamond Dude would let you get around is the "Activate only when there are 2 or more "Crystal Beast" cards in your Spell & Trap Card Zone..." part of it. If you hit the card with Diamond Dude and there's only 1 Crystal Beast, then yes you can resolve it and draw the 2 cards.
