Frankly i'm glad of this ruling, i was gonna ask the same question actually. Some examples of situations you would ask deck size:

1.) Near the end of the game (low amt of cards left) and one player has "Card Destruction" + "Serial Spell" in thier hand. On thier turn, they ask and are answered. The turn player just wanted to know how low thier opponent's deck would be after the 2 aforementioned cards are comboed so he/she can deside if doing it is worth losing that serial spell's ability to combo with other cards that may give a definate win. In this case, the player showed an advanced knowelege of the game, and isn't really cheating.

2.) While siding, an opponent is allowed to count the side deck to make sure it still has 15 cards. By extention, they are also counting the maindeck to be sure it has the same number of cards.

3.) The graveyard is public knowelege, why not the number of cards in the deck?

I could prob think up alot more, but my access time is almost up.

In conclusion, this opens the door to both a new level of skill and a new way of cheating. IMHO as Judges, we should welcome the former and guard against the latter.
