Replay And Call of The Haunted

If my opponent declares an attack and I play Call of the Haunted and bring a monster a replay is triggered.Can he then decide not to attack (yes) and go to main phase 2 and change the monster to defense or is it stuck in attack because he declared an attack?I think its the latter but it always nice to be proven wrong lol tyvm guys

If you did activate CotH and summoned a monster, he would be able to go to MP2 and not attack, but the monster could not change positions because it still did declare an attack. ^_^
