Ring of destruction and Tribute summons.

I was in a game and I take control of an opponents monster with snatch steal then prompty sacrifice it for Jinzo. My opponent then says he will use ring. I go to take back my Jinzo (b/c I assumed that he was chaining to my snatch steal) and he says that my monster has to go to the graveyard b/c he was chaining/respondng to the tribute. I say the tribute for a tribute summon doesn't give him a chance to respond and the part about my monster then going to the grave is nutty. We then go to a computer to settle this and he bings up this ruling.

"If a player Tributes "Witch of the Black Forest" for "Summoned
Skull", you can chain "Ring of Destruction" to the effect of "Witch of the Black Forest", in order to destroy "Summoned Skull". If this reduces the player's Life Points to zero, then they cannot use "Witch of the Black Forest"'s effect (to retrieve a 5th Exodia piece, for example)."

Can he do this and what would happen to the monster if it wasn't a Jinzo.

Thank you for any assistance.

What i understand is that if ur jinzo is successfully tribute summoned (ie not negated by horn of heaven or solemn judgment) then all trap cards on the field cannot be activated including his ring of destruction, thus if he is activating the ring of destruction in respond to your summon , i feel that its illegal.

If you Tribute Summon, your opponent cannot chain/respond to it, Summoning a monster has no form of Spell Speed so one must must wait for the actual summon.

If your opponent had intention to activate Ring of Destruction, he/she shouldv'e done so. In this situation, he/she should've chained Ring of Destruction to the target of Snatch Steal.

The moment you declared Tribute Summoned and summoned Jinzo, one cannot activate Ring of Destruction.

That move was illegal.

Of course the fact that you immediately summoned after snatch steal gives him the chance to argue that he wanted to ROD his own monster - which meant you can't tribute it to summon Jinzo. That's why you should always ask your opponent if they want to do anything after you make a move. If they say no, they can't reverse steps anymore. Here, he can say that you didn't give him a chance to ROD his monster, even though he might not have wanted to in the first place!

The opponent does not have to chain Ring of destruction to snatch steal. After something resolves there is an opportunity for both players to respond to the action: the turn palyer has priority, but using priority does not allow a player to perform a summon. Therefore the opponent has 2 opportunities to activate ring of destruction before Jinzo may be summoned:

  • 1) in chain with snatch steal
    2) after Snatch steal resolves in a response chain
The illegal move, sauce247, was you "promptly summoning jinzo"
