ritual summmoning vs trap dustshoot/mind crush

exiledforcefreak

RIP Jacob KT 2/16/06
two questions were posed to me yesterday, one of which I was able to answer with a fair amount of certainty.

-If my opponent activates advanced ritual art, I chain trap dustshoot and he has TWO king of armageddons in his hand. If I send back one of themm can he ritual summon the other? "it says select"
answer: so does creature swap, but you don't chose the monsters switched till resolution; your opponent may in fact ritual summon the other king of armageddon.

-If my opponent activates advanced ritual art, I chain trap dustshoot ridding him of his only King of Armageddon. Does he still have to send the monsters from his deck?
answer: On the level 3 test I got a question wrong because I was supposed to "resolve as much of the card as possible" so for now I'm going to rule it as yes. I'm not 100% sure though and I will check.

Apparently Advance Ritual Art is just like Creature Swap. You select at resolution. I hadn't seen these rulings yet:

This effect does not target anything.

You choose the Ritual Monster you want to Ritual Summon when the effect resolves

Targeting effects are the only effect that make you pick something at activation.

I'd have to agree with you. Since all this happens at resolution.

"Select 1 ritual monster in your hand. Send normal monsters from your deck to the graveyard that's total levels equal that of the ritual monster's. Ritual summon a card with the same name as the selected ritual monster from your hand."

So if there were 2 Demise in hand, it wouldn't matter. It has the same name. As for if there were 1, I really couldn't say if you would still have to send monsters from the deck to the graveyard. I would say yes though, because you are supposed to resolve as much of an effect as you can. But really, that's one of those things I'm a little unsure of.

If you no longer have the Ritual Monster in hand, then entire effect of the card goes away. You do not send anything to the Graveyard.

It would be similar to this ruling here:

You can also chain "Disturbance Strategy" to "Polymerization" and, if the opponent no longer has the Fusion Material Monsters (if they were in his hand for example) then the effect of "Polymerization" disappears.

You'd send nothing to the Graveyard if you end up having no Ritual Monsters in hand. It's the same as the old days when with normal Ritual Summoning where if something was chained (like Disturbance Strategy) and you don't have the Ritual Monster (or enough levels for tribute) you send nothing to the Graveyard and nothing is summoned. The spell effect just "fizzles" :D
