Rivalry of Warlords MFC-048

Type: Continuous Trap
Text: Each player must send monsters from his/her side of the field to the Graveyard so taht he/she only controls 1 Type of face-up   monster. As long as this card remains face-up on the field, each player can only Summon or control 1 type of face-up monster at a time.

An often overlooked card, Rivalry of Warlords is a fantastically useful card in today's game. With Beatdown, Burn, and Scapegoats running amuck in the world of Yu-Gi-Oh!, this card could be the key to giving your deck the extra edge during close duels, especially those of us running type decks (i.e. Warriors, Spellcasters, etc.). What makes this card so useful is its versatility. It limits your opponents options, which is ALWAYS a good thing. Here's a common list of ways in which RoW is used:

1. During your opponent's battle phase. Do you frequently find yourself getting beatdown after your opponent kills off all of your creatures with a Tribe-Infecting Virus, and then attacks with TIV and some massive beatstick. If you activate RoW, your opponent either keeps the 1600 attack TIV with the good effect, or the 1900 beatstick that can do nothing except attack. LIMIT YOUR OPPONENT'S OPTIONS.
2. Activate it during your turn. If you need to clear some monsters off of your opponent's field to make some room for your attack, flip up RoW and make your opponent give up some creatures. Now, not only can your opponent only have one type of face-up monster, but you have just gained field control as well. Sweet!
3. My personal way to utilze RoW's effect is when my opponent has a monster and some Scapegoats on the field. When you use RoW in this situation, you force your opponent to either give up field control by killing all of his goats, or you make him lose the monster, and keep all of his pathetic goats! This makes control decks virtually useless!

All in all, RoW is a very powerful card that can be used in a number of ways. It can easily give you control of the field or of the entire game itself. But, most importantly, it LIMITS YOUR OPPONENT'S OPTIONS.

your 3rd option: you gave the same choice twice ;)  (give up the goats or give up the goats)

Combos Nicely with Light of Intervention so your opponent can't work around it with face-down monsters.

Indeed, no matter how many times I am told by my friends to take it out, I keep it in to give me the added advantage in a bad situation, I mean you have nothing but rivalry set and your opponent sends another monster out to their already of 3-4 monsters ready to hit you directly, which is better 4/5 direct attacks or 1? ^_^

yay, some more recogntion to this card, i have tried for a good while now to incorporate this deck into my fiend deck

which by the waym the inly decks that should caryy this are decks that focus one one single type, ie fiend, warriors, or now dragons, curse you horus

there goes my combo, rivalry then byser shock

i call it a shick attack

Question on the card

Once Rivalry of Warlords is activated the monster the type that is chosen doesn't always remain as your opponents type right?

Example: I have a zombie my opponent has a beast and a beast warrior my opponent chooses his beast to live if my opponent has no monsters on the field am i right thinking he can now summon a sea serpent for example and the new type he can have is sea serpent?

Each player decides what monster type they wish to controll. If you chose sea serpent, he/she can choose warrior. And you change every turn. It helps keep your opponent from using those pesky Premature Burials and the like.

Actually, you change type for RoW when you no longer have any face-up monsters, none of the chosen type, etc.

I really dig this card... i run it in my Spellcasters /DM deck... people really get ticked when they have to destroy half of their swarming field of beatdown monsters.... I think its great when they have Jinzo in hand with BLS-Envoy and can not use either one since they have Scapegoats on the field...... This card has single handedly turned my Spellcasters deck into a force to reckon with... i would easily give it a 4/5..... but only in a deck with a specific monster type running..... eg... spellcasters, warriors.... etc (this would work great with Amazonesses)
