Sangan vs. Mefist

If player A attacks player B who has a face down Sangan and no cards in their hand, how does it all end up. Does Mefist take the card Sangan searches for or does it not? (Mefist: When this card inflicts battle damage to your opponents life points, discard 1 card randomly from your opponents hand.) How does the timing work on this one?

Mefist activates first, during Damage Calculation.

Then Sangan activates later, at the end of the Damage Step when sent to the Graveyard.
