Serial Spell and Costs

Say you activate a Duo. You have to have a 1 other card than Duo to activate Serial Spell, correct?

Im assuming this because Duo is on the field and thus IMO cannot be considered the activation cost of Serial Spell.

And just to back what chaosruler said, Serial Spell only duplicates effects, not costs. So you will not have to pay a second 1000 LP for the second Duo's effect.

When timed correctly, that will be quite a nice way to get your opponent top decking.

...well the cost it´s part of the effect of the card isn´t?...
It was ruled that Serial Spell duplicates effects but not the activation costs. Seems to me the card text could have been worded clearer though. From the Judges List:

I know that you cannot Level Up! a single LV monster to its highest form
using Serial Spell and Level Up! because sending the monster to the
Graveyard is a cost to activate Level Up!.

However, if you had two LV monsters, say Armed Dragon LV3 and Horus the
Black Flame Dragon LV4, could I activate Level Up! (sending the Armed
Dragon LV3) and then discard my hand to activate Serial Spell (targeting
the Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV4)?

Since it is a cost to send the LV monster from the field to the
Graveyard to activate Level Up! and I do not pay the costs for Serial
Spell, wouldn't the Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV4 remain on the field
while I also had a Armed Dragon LV5 and a Horus the Black Flame Dragon
LV6 as well?

Answer:

NOT a good idea to do this.

Here is the problem: "Serial Spell" copies the effect of "Level Up!" but does
not copy the activation cost.

"Level Up!" says to "send 1 face-up monster on your side of the field that has
"LV" in its card name to the Graveyard to activate this card." This is
the activation cost.
When it resolves it will Special Summon "the monster that is written in the
card text of that monster..." and "that monster" refers to the LV monster
you sent to the Graveyard for the activation cost.

But "Serial Spell" did not send a LV monster to the Graveyard... so it has
no text to reference and thus no monster it can Special Summon. It can
do nothing.

If you do this you will have wasted your "Serial Spell." (and discarding an
LV monster to pay for "Serial Spell" does not work either, so don't even ask.)

(Also note that "Level Up!" DOES NOT TARGET.)
