i had a question about useing remove restraints and serial spell i read the ruling and you can do it the only thing is, is i dont understand from what i know when you use remove restraints and chain serial spell to it serial spell becomes a copy of the normal spell played right before it so this is how i thought it would work
link 1 remove restraints
link 2 serial spell

so you resolve the serial spell copy first tribute the gearfied and get a swordmaster
then the remove restraints resolve but there isn;t a gearfriend to tribute so how does it work since tributeing the gearfriend is the cost of the card and this is asuming you only have 1 gearfriend on the field

Tributing "Gearfried the Iron Knight" is the activation cost to activating "Remove Restraints". Even when you're chaining with "Serial Spell", "Gearfried the Iron Knight" is already in the Graveyard.

And for that matter, when "Serial Spell" copies of Normal Spell Card's effect, it doesn't copy the card's activation cost(s), if any.

Release Restraint
Normal Spell
Tribute 1 "Gearfried the Iron Knight" on your side of the field to Special Summon 1 "Gearfried the Swordmaster" from your hand or Deck.

Serial Spell
Quick-play Spell
You can only activate this card when you activate one of your Normal Spell Cards. Discard all the cards in your hand to the Graveyard. The effect of this card becomes the same as the Normal Spell Card.

And Kenjiblade has explained it.

Serial Spell copies only the EFFECT of Release Restraint (Special Summon a Gearfriend the Swordmaster), not it's cost (tribute a Gearfried).

You shouldn't do that. He's got a very contagious sickness called "Deck Devastation Virus". Ooops! Look at that! You've been infected!!!
