Snatch Steal, Cyber Phoenix, and any other machine

This question comes after something rather funny I saw happen in my DS WC2007 game, so I thought I would ask how the real outcome of this same situation would work out. This is how it played out on the game:

My opponent has Cyber Phoenix out (was actually mine, they just creature swapped for it) and I have a Jinzo out on the field. They activate Snatch Steal and take control of my Jinzo. Chaos immediately ensues as they get my Jinzo, but have Cyber Phoenix on their side and it's targetted by Snatch Steal! SO I get it back, yay! Uh-oh, it goes to them, then to me, then to them, then to me, then knowing this would be an infinite loop, the game destroys Jinzo and continues. Quite the amusing scene, and I'm glad it has checks like that in place to protect from the odd scenario, but how would this play out in the real world?

Would this be an illegal activation, or play out the same way, or entirely different?

A card that would cause an infite loop cannot be activated, so Snatch Steal wouldn't be able to be activated in the first place.

That's what I figured would happen, I just found it very amusing to watch, I half expected the game to crash, from it. That multi-trigger Malicious is annoying to the point I HATE playing with him, just because it asks you EVERY SINGLE PHASE if you want to activate an effect.
