Soul Release:

"Select up to 5 cards from either you or your opponent's Graveyard and remove them from the current duel."

OK, so my question is because of the wording on 'Soul Release' (above). I've always thought this card was worded odly compared to others that have 'removed from play' effects and wondered why.

- Are cards effected by 'Soul Release' removed from the current duel no matter what? -

I ask because I was wondering if a monster effected by this card can be returned via 'Return From The Different Dimension' or not. I'd assumed so, but then a friend and I were talking about it and we decided to ask those on high for their expertise - and were better to come and ask than here?

Soul Release moves at most 5 cards from either player's Graveyard to their "Removed from Play" pile. Monsters here can be Special Summoned by "Return from the Different Dimension" and "Dimension Fusion" as long as they are allowed to be (ie not a Nomi-, Monsters with summoning requirements were properly summoned, etc.)

It's always a good idea to check on the most recent text, too. "Soul Release" is a very old card indeed. Thankfully it was reprinted in Dark Beginnings 1 and has more standard verbage:

Soul Release
Normal Spell

Select up to 5 cards from either your or your opponent's Graveyard(s) and remove them from play.
