I am very much like the idea of pure sphinx, but is it even possible to do that competitively.
So I would like to, but I want to have a deck that can compete.

You should not worry about your Deck being competitive or not. What is important is that you make your Deck the way you want it, without sullying the intergrity of it (like being CC with a Sphinx Deck). I would tell you to wait a week or two before making this Deck since the Earth Structure is basically a Sphinx Earth Deck, and features a new Sphinx support monster. Plus the Field Spell Card they have looks beautiful. But if you cannot, then at least get a list of every card that has Sphinx in its name or is part of that theme.

Like Andro Sphinx for example. Then go about finding what cards fit the theme and not cards that will go in there because they are staples. Not saying you should not use Staples, but at least stick to the theme for the most part.

You mentioned the new structure deck, where can I check out this deck?
Also I thought about using the three big sphinxes, but they seem like they are too hard to use.
So I guess until the structure deck comes out I would like to build a deck that uses Guardian Sphinx to its full potential.
And you are right about not worring about being competitive, but I would like to take a off the wall deck to my tourney and do very well, because out of the 25-30 people that show up at the tourney, about 20-21 of them have CC decks and it gets a little old going up against them.
I normally run a pretty descent Gravekeeper deck or a vampire deck, and I usually finish in the top three, but I want to suprise them, with something off beat.

Try checking DMcomet.net to see if they have a list of it. Guardian Exode for instance is a new monster, NOMI, ATK/ 0 DEF/ 4000. I forget what else it does but you can Special Summon it by Tributing a card with Sphinx in its name. I assume the entire Sphinx word alone and not say Criosphinx, but not sure. I will check it out tonight on the 2006 GBA game. Yeah, try not to worry about being competitive. I know your feeling. I detest seeing all the CC decks running around. You can do your best at making your Deck because no Deck is perfect or unbeatable. At least when you go to the tourney with your own Deck and win or lose you did it on your own. I will get back to you with more suggestions on how to go about this Sphinx Deck later after I test it out on the GBA game.

Thanks Tiso, I do not speak with too many people that hate CC decks as much as I do.
You have reminded me why I play the game still, I play it for fun and the challenge, not just to win.

You know, I have found that Guardian Sphinx works really well with Spirit Reaper as it's sidekick. Flip Sphinx, atk with sphinx and reaper... they lose some hand...
Maybe look toward Mystic Tomato a bit to draw out the Reapers and keep some field presence going on....

Also, I think that Curse of Anubis works well, cuz it can keep the opponent from punishing you while having Spirit Reaper in atk mode on their turn.... it will put all effect monsters in defense, and protect that little guy and your life points...

I really like the Sphinx approach.. maybe drop Heiracosphinx for another Criosphinx.... and I really think that A Hero Emerges would do well in here as well, having 5 trib monsters and all...

Just my thoughts, but I DO think that this deck could be competitive with out going CC.... and just to harness the ability to HURT those CC decks... Nobleman of Extermination... Bye Bye Sakuretsu

sorry if i dont have any actual fixes for you right now.. but all i have is ideas ... hope they help

Laterz

How exactly would you use Protector of the Sanctuary though? It is meant to stop your opponent from drawing cards from outside of the Draw Phase. Not sure if a Sphinx card has any Draw power like that. THEN again, Magical Mallet being played gives the Draw aspect something to be scared of.

Speaking of Sphinx.... You also have the option of using those BIG and sometimes thought of as useless sphinxes.... Andro Sphinx, and the girl one... but not the BIGGER of the three... those incorporate well in conjunction with A Hero Emerges and Reasoning.... it would be a definitely unexpected surprise...

What does skelengel do?
I guess I am trying to keep away from the big sphinxes, because to me they just seem to hard to use.
My idea of the deck is basically to keep there monsters off the field, granted it might Backfire with breakers and mobius, but I thought it was worth a try.

Well I just tested a Sphinx Deck on the GBA game and here is what I learned.

You should use:

Guardian Exode (when it comes out this month)
Guardian Sphinx
Criosphinx
Hieracosphinx
Giant Rat
Last Will
Monster Reincarnation
Ordeal of a Traveler
Cost Down
Soul Exchange
Magical Mallet
Shield & Sword
Curse of Anubis
Chorus of Sanctuary

And that is just for starters. Guardian Exode was Special Summoned perfectly with Criosphinx and Hieracosphinx and using Shield & Sword with it is brutal. Using Ordeal of a Traveler instead of A Hero Emerges gives Criosphinx ability to work better, as long as you have cards in your hand which Magical Mallet will make sure to keep them guessing.

Aww man, you totally just went out of the Sphinx theme with your changes. You are only using Criosphinx and no Hierocosphinx? You put Breaker the Magical Warrior in your Deck when he does not belong. You COULD use Dummy Golem, but his entire purpose is moot if you are using Guardian Sphinx which is superior to it. That was why I said use Cost Down. You could combo it with The Shallow Grave or Spear Cretin. Spear Cretin allows you to get a monster back without your opponent even having a monster in their Graveyard. Something The Shallow Grave does not do. I would really wait now to make this Deck and check out that Earth Structure Deck. Guardian Exode is a must in a Sphinx Deck. The point of those Sphinxs were to disturpt his or her field and send the monsters back to the hand. Hierosphinx protects your face-down monsters from being attacked. Criosphinx out with Guardian Sphinx or Dummy Golem makes them discard a card. Totally not how I would have done it, especially when Sphinx have a science to how they are supposed to work.

Since I made the deck, I have always had breaker in it.
I did remove hiercosphinx, and Dummy Golem. But now that you metioned spear cretain, I might remove Magical Merchant to put in a spear cretain. I havn't totally decided on hiercosphinx yet, I know he protects me face downs, but that is a lot of tributes.
I am thinking about Cost Down, but what should I take out for it.
If I put in Cost Down, I will probably put in hiercosphinx again.

See, my opinion and you are free to make the Deck however you like afterward would be to wait for the Earth Stucture Deck. By then, news of the TCG list will be nearing completition and we will know what we can and cannot use. I mean with the Sphinxs you have such control on what your opponent can attack and how many monsters your opponent can have not to mention in their hand. Already without even putting much thought in it I see myself using Staunch Defender, Fault Zone, and Guardian Exode. Force my opponent to attack a 4000 DEF monster and get double damage because of Fault Zone. I gave you some cards you could use some posts ago and you can use that as a base or not. It is entirely up to you how you want to go with your Deck. That is why working on your Deck all the time is fun. Never perfect and always striving to be better each revision.
