Spirit Barrier Question

Council of Heroes
Spirit Barrier
Continuous Trap

As long as a monster(s) remain(s) on your side of the field, battle damage to the controller of this card becomes 0.

Just to make sure I'm not totally missing the boat and am going to properly abuse this card. If I have one monster on the field (1800 ATK) and my opponent attacks it (2000 ATK), since my monster isn't removed until AFTER damage calculation, do I still take 0 battle damage from the attack?

I just want to make sure before I tuck this away in my little treasure chest 8^D

Yes of course.

The only time this effect stops working is when the controller has 0 monsters on the field. You would still have one monster on the field while the attack is being calculated.

Just some I am clear, if I have spirit barrier and astral barrier and I have a monster on my side of the field, I cannot take any damage from my opponet's monster's attack, correct?

Correct (wow, you go away and all of the sudden tons of questions fly in...8^D) here's the quick rundown.

You opponent attacks your monster. You use Astral Barrier's effect to redirect it as a direct attack to you (remember, this is still considered battle damage). Then since there is a monster on the field, the battle damage you took becomes 0.

One thing to note here, is that Des Counterblow WILL NOT work with this combo because 0 damage is not considered inflicting damage, so the attacking monster will not be destroyed. Des Counterblow could make and interesting third counterpard to the barriers depending on what the situation warranted. Go ahead and let that low baller attack you directly so that you can turn around and destroy it? Hmmm.... 8^D

spirit barrier is best with spirit reaper. or better if you can add patrician of darkness. spirit barrier+spirit reaper+patrician of darkness.

There's a variation to this card's use, combining AB, SB A Legendary Fisherman and Umi, you have a strong monster always protecting your life points, that way you can let the tornado wall count down to 1 card only speeding up the deck

this is a very interesting combo that i wanted to use... but it's so dependant on having both cards - having one by itself is quite useless and would be terrible topdeck.. also easily countered by jinzo or any s/t removals which are quite common nowadays.. so i wouldnt put it in any serious tournament deck.. great for a fun deck against friends though

Spirit Barrier by itself is still quite handy to have. It will still resolve properly if you only have one monster on the field. Granted it will get destroyed, but you still won't take any damage from it.

Call me lucky, but I've had considerable luck pulling the combo off with 1 Astral Barrier and 2 Spirit Barriers. Your opponent is more prone to destroying the Spirit Barrier than Astral. Granted it's a "substrategy" within my overall theme, but it give you that extra LP protection through continuous traps. In addition, it gives an added boost against tramplers, since all of them (as far as I've read) say inflict the damage as battle damage, not effect damage.
