Staunch Defender Debate

Staunch Defender
Normal Trap

You can only activate this card when your opponent declares an attack. Select 1 face-up monster on your side of the field. During the turn this card is activated, your opponent can only attack the monster you selected. Your opponent must attack the selected monster with all face-up monsters on his/her side of the field.

Ok, here's the question for the day. Would the effect of "Staunch Defender" change all face-up defense position monsters to face-up attack position since it says "Your opponent must attack ... with all face-up monsters..."

Well, if the card says all face-up monster on his/her side of the field, I guess face-up defending monster must change their battle position to attack position and attack. But how will the Level Limit - Area B affect this situation?

Assuming that "Staunch Defender" does change their position, "Level Limit - Area B" would change those who are 4+ Stars back to Defense Position.

And yes, one can "assume" that it would change those positions, but that's why I'm trying to find out for certain. :)

I would say that it does change the positions. The card could have specified "face-up Attack Position monsters" if that weren't the case, and there is not any errata reported. And the combo Ojama Trio - Staunch Defender - Labyrinth Wall seems right, pretty right.

actaully the best combo wouldnt be the one with labyrinth wall but with that one defender card that when it does damage itll do double the damage.

since all the monsters must attack you can presume that it will lead to alot of OTK decks.

3x Stouch defenders
3x that one card that deals double damage
3x Ojama Trio

even with the combo, how easy will it be to pull off?

They do turn to attack postion and must attack. I found it in the old judge's list forum on Yahoo. Message #3730 as follows.....

Skill Drain will not prevent Vampire Lord from returning by its
effect because the effect activates and resolves while it is in the
Graveyard.

Any Face-up monsters on your opponent's side of the field will have
to switch to attack position and each attack the selected monster
seperatly.
The opponent decides which order their monsters will attack in.

It's a great and under used card with defense decks yes, look at the possibilities in a machine deck with monsters in attack position and the activation of Limiter Removal though. (as Julia descibes in Metagame's recent atricle of this date) The machine monster is going to be destroyed by the effect of Limiter Removal anyway....may as well get the best use of that monster!
