STON-EN061: Neo-Parshath, the Sky Paladin

Another "first time in history" that I'll rate a card that's the "icon boss" of a structure deck. Okay, it's NOT from a structure deck, but from a secret rare in STON. But hey, Konami USA are somehow being asses and decided to NOT release the Light Structure, and make us pay ALOT (by either trading, or spending money online) for cards of a structure deck. (Now, if these were Gadgets, then it's somewhat understandable, since Gadgets were originally V-Jump promo in Japan) But these new 8 cards are no where near "staple", and it's just there to support fairy decks. (i.e. either Counter-Fairy, or Sanctuary deck. Or a bit of both mixed) IMO, they're being jerks who wants more money off of us player.

Anyway, among the "bosses" of stucture deck, this one is definately IMO the best one yet. So I think it's worth it to actually rate cause it's is worth making a deck around this card. (For fun decks of course.)

Anyway, onto the review

---------

Neo-Parshath, the Sky Paladin

Level 7 / Fairy / Light / Effect

2300ATK / 2000DEF

You can Special Summon this card by Tributing 1 "Airknight Parshath". During battle between this attacking card and a Defense Position monster whose DEF is lower then the ATK of this card, inflict the difference as Battle Damage to your opponent. When this card inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent, draw 1 card. While "The Sanctuary of the Sky" is on your field and your Life Points are higher then your opponent's, this card gains ATK and DEF equal to the difference in Life Points.

--------

Oh man, that's a LONG TEXT for a monster. Anyway, let's first look at it's stats.

It's a LV7, and for a LV7, it's only 2300ATK/2000DEF. Well, ignoring the DEF, being only 2300ATK for a freaking 2 tribute monster is HORRIBLE STATS. But is it really that bad? Well, we can ask it's younger brother Airknight Parshath the same question. And the answer is, no. The effect, if it's good enough, can cover up the poor stats. And so can this card... if you can support it. Hmm, it's a Fairy/Light. And since Chaos is banned, Light doesn't really matter. Oh yeah, there's the "new generation" of Chaos Monsters coming out in Force of the Breaker, and that CAN use this card since it's a Fairy/Light. (those new Chaos needs 4x monsters removal to be summoned, not to mention it have to be Fiend/Dark and Fairy/Light. i.e. no Cyber Dragon/Zaborg/Tomato/Reaper/Dekoichi/etc.) Anyway, but that's not out so let's not count that. Hmm, what else. There IS a Celestial Transformation + Inferno Reckless Summon combo. (i.e. to get 3x of these guys out at once) But that's a combo that depends on pot-luck. And I would honestly say I won't run 3x of these guys since it can be dead cards in hand. (The only 2x tribute summon monster that I would consider running 3x is just DMoC... but that's 1x per deck, for a good reason.)

So overall, the stats, attributes means nothing. So it's the effect that got me interested into the review.

Let's start of with it's first effect. You CAN special summon this card from hand if you tribute Airknight Parshath. Well, this is good, cause there's a shortcut. And unlike cards like Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon or Dark Eradicator Warlock, the monster needed for the tribute for special summon is just a LV5 monster. (The other two needed a LV7 monster. not to mention Normal monsters that's hard to get out even with it's supports. And they are nomis to boot.) Now, this isn't the ONLY way to summon this card. Unlike the other two boss-structure cards, you can special summon this card in any other way if possible. (e.g. Premature/CotH. Heck, even Miraculous Descent works if your running a removal deck or even Monster Gate/Reasoning/etc. Almost nobody calls LV7 so it works quite well with Reasoning.)

But you might say, "getting Airknight is alot of work too". Yes, in most cases, yes it is. However, there are other cards that can support Airknight. The OBVIOUS one is Treeborn Frog. (Duh) However, along with these Secret rares comes other cards that can help Airknight. Nova Summoner have the effect of Shining Angel but with only Fairy/Light, But it also have an effect of searching Airknight instead of regular 1500ATK monsters, IF you have Sanctuary of the Sky on the field. (If it wasn't for the "Sanctuary of the Sky" limitation, people will be running 3x Nova Summoner/3x Shining Angel and 3x Airknight like if it was Zombie decks with Pyramid/Kokki/Vampire combo) What else. You CAN support it with monster like Kaiser Seahorse. However, there's a even better card called Gellenduo. It have a Kaiser Seahorse effect, of being 2x tribute for 1, but ONLY for Fairy/Light. (So you can use it on this, or Goryu, etc.) But what makes Gellenduo better then Seahorse is that it cannot be destroyed as a result of battle. (ZOMG, it's REAPER?!) And it got 1700ATK for a reaper/Marshmellon effect. However, Gellenduo have an effect that if the player controller takes any LP damage, this card is destroyed. (When face-up of course, so you can "Book it" to save it) So if it's in ATK position, and something higher then 1700ATK attacks it, then it'll die by itself. But you can ALWAYS set it and make it stay in DEF position for like forever like Reaper does. And oh yeah, if you have Sanctuary on the field, Gellenduo is literally invincible except by card effect destruction since it negates battle damage of Fairy monsters. Another words, Neo-Parshath got ALOT of support going for him. (And for overall fairy/light decks)

So it's somewhat easier to summon this dude for a LV7. That's good. So let's see it's 2nd effect. This effect is the same effect as it's younger brother Airknight Parshath. Meaning it got trample + draw effect. Now, we KNOW this effect is good cause of overall history of experience. Heck, Airknight is STILL good, even if it's a poor 1900ATK stat for a tribute monster. The only reason why Airknight died out in CC decks is cause of Cyber Dragon. Luckily, this one is 2300ATK so it won't have to worry about Cyber Dragon, although it STILL needs to worry about Monarch/Jinzo that can ram it over. So, is this card overall bad. Let's see it's 3rd effect.

If you have a Sanctuary of the Sky on the field, this card gains ATK/DEF equal to the difference of LP. Now, this effect is SCARY. And if you guys didn't notice, this effect is a rip-off of The Agent of Force - Mars. However, Mars had ONLY the effect of gaining ATK/DEF, i.e. just beatstick. Not to mention Mars starts off with 0 ATK/DEF, so it's stats isn't gunna go that high unless your opponent is dying. However, this card starts off with 2300ATK, so with this ATK/DEF increase effect, it's gunna go HIGH. (it basically gains it's ATK equal to the battle damage that it does + whatever else LP difference it had before... and it will do battle damage since it have trample effect.) Not to mention this card have a trample + draw effect so it isn't an ordinary beatstick unlike Mars. Now, how scary is this effect, let's make an example.

------

#1: Say both players have 8000LP.

You get out Neo-Parshath with Sanc on the field. Your foe have Reaper in DEF mode.

You trample the bugger and draw. Now the LP difference should be 2100. So now your Neo-Parshath is 4500ATK/4100DEF... that have trample+Draw effect... in one successful atk... that's SCARY. (Dude, it's on Cyber End Dragon level now, although there's no Limiter/Megamorph combo for OTK)

So, next turn, Neo-Parshath tramples Reaper again. So since your foe was 5900LP, and the battle damage was 4300LP. Now your foe is just 1600LP and your Neo-Parshath is in 8700ATK.... yeah... now it's in OTK level...

----------

So basically, effect wise, this monster is the best beatstick ever. It gains ATK increase, have trample, and draw effect. Now, the prob might be that instead of Reaper, they might have Jinzo/Monarch on the field. But this is a Fairy/Light. There's TONS of Fairy effects that gains LP. Heck, you can even go nuts and use Cestus of Dagla and make insane ATK boost. Anyway, gaining LP, or overall making a LP difference (You CAN use burn effect instead of gaining LP to make the difference.) is not that hard. (even a weenie 200LP difference to your favor can kill a Monarch)

So, let's review this card in overall point of view. Is this card splashable. HECK NO. It needs heavy support. Another words, it needs it's deck theme around it and that deck theme is a bit too combo oriented that takes time that's nowhere near CC level. Overall, it's original counterpart Airknight Parshath is better since it needs almost no support. (The only real support Airknight needs in a "splashed" CC deck is just Treeborn Frog, and maybe Rush/EC/Shrink to go over Cyber/Monarch/Jinzo)

However, is this card worth making a deck over. Yes, cause it's fun. And the obvious deck theme this card belongs in is Sanctuary Fairy deck. (you can splash a Counter-Fairy mix into the Sanctuary deck if you want.) However, does it really need Sanctuary in the field? Not really. 2300ATK is usually good enough to kill anything except for Monarch/Jinzo. If they don't have Treeborn Frog ready for the tribute summon, or Preme/CotH to get them out, any other inferior monsters will die by this card. However, Sanctuary definately helps cause you can use Nova Summoner to get Airknight quickly for tribute to special summon this card. (plus the ATK increase effect)

Now, the OTHER obvious prob is to get him out after so much effort just to get killed by Saku/Ring/Torrential/BTH/Mirror/etc. (Oh, they'll Torrential, even if they have Reaper or 4x Goat Tokens or GK Spy on the field) One obvious solution is Heavy Storm. But that might destroy your Sanctuary, but it's better then losing your big monster. Or you can Trunade and reactivate the field spell. Or you can use Royal Decree. (What they gunna do, activate Scapegoat? Bah, the only spell card that can save their ass from this monster from battle is just Book and EC.) But not sure about Royal Decree if you want to run Treeborn Frog. (Heck, not sure if running Frog is a good idea in a deck that runs Field Spells. You might just want to depend on Summoning Nova/Gellenduo instead of Frog, it IS a LV7 monster, so just a Frog usually isn't enough) Other then Royal Decree, you can even use My Body as a Shield. (Yeah, it have 1500LP payment so no boost from Sanctuary if used, but to save a trample+draw monster, it's worth it in the long run.) Another prob is that your foe might Brain/Snatch/EC it after it gains it's huge ATK stat to use it against you. (This is why trample or generally big ATK stat monsters should usually be used for OTK, cause they keep getting stolen if not) However, if you make a burn/LP gain support with this card, you can usually pull an OTK for the win so no worry of getting it stolen. (Or you can always book it. 2000DEF is good enough)

I don't know, there's alot of probs for a card that needs alot of support to get itself out. But the support is good enough to focus a deck around. (Basically, this card is the "game-ender/finisher" in a Sanctuary deck) And if they don't have an immediate solution against this card, then they are screwed as this card will kill your foe in 1~2 turns usually. (It's a slower Cyber End Dragon effect in gameplay wise) And remember, you can bypass the 2x tribute cost, and even if you summoned it by 2x tribute, or Gellenduo, or Airknight, the draw effect covers up your cost of getting him out.

And should you make this deck. Maybe. But IMO, I would try to collect the cards for now and wait for Force of the Breaker for Emissary of Sky - Zeradias. (i.e. Terraforming in a monster form) When that card comes out, then getting Sanctuary becomes pretty easy. (And unlike Terraforming, that card have way less chance of being dead card since it's a monster, even if it needs Sanctuary on the field to be used. And it's a 2100ATK beatstick to boot.) But IMO, you don't HAVE to have Sanctuary on the field for this card. IMO, the Sanctuary should more be used for Nova Summoner to get Airknight faster to get out Neo-Parshath faster, not for the Neo-Parshath ATK boost effect. (getting the actual monster out is more important then extra icing effect) I'm rather more worried about keeping Neo-Parshath on MY side of the field (Getting stolen is way worse then getting it destroyed) rather then keeping Sanctuary of the field. (Getting it out only to be destroyed or stolen is totally not the point of the use of this card) I mean, people steal Airknight/Jinzo all day and they WILL try to steal this card, especially since we got Snatch Steal that EVERYBODY runs.

Overall, I'm giving this card a

7 out of 10

It's a card that cannot be splashed and needs huge support. Luckily, the support itself is good that it can be played, even if it's a LV7 monster with poor initial stats. And if used correct, it'll have the same gameplay flow as getting a Cyber End Dragon out with Limiter/Megamorph pumped. Overall, a good card in a Sanctuary deck. If your planning to run a Sactuary Fairy deck, definately consider to focus around this card as the game-ender.

NOTE: PLEASE don't think of using Megamorph with this card. This card gains ATK with YOUR LP being bigger then your foe with Sanctuary... totally goes against Megamorph that 2x ATK pump when your LP is lower, i.e. doesn't fit the deck theme. Unless your gunna run a Removal Fairy deck with Dimension Fusion/Reasoning/Monster gate theme, (i.e. uses Soul of Purity and Light+Freed as removal source of monsters being Monster Gate/Reasoning/Question/etc. with Goryu, Airknight, Ohka, Joan, Moisture Creature, Shining Angel, etc. and then RftDD, Dimension Fusion. I've seen this deck style. Only this deck theme can actually use Megamorph on Neo-Parshath since you pay LP with Dimension Fusion/RftDD, etc.) The traditional way to get him out is Nova Summoner with Sanctuary on the field to get Airknight to get this card out, or tribute Gellenduo.
