strike and newdoria

Hey, I attack with my strike ninja his newdoria. He chooses to destroy my ninja with newdoria's effect. Can I remove the ninja so that he can't be destroyed by newdoria?

His effect may be after Damage Calculation, but it is BEFORE the end of the Damage step. So I'm still right.

When this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard as a result of battle, destroy 1 monster on the field.

Hmmm on second thought Jason might be right... If the when was after, then you could save him... But when implies that the damage step isn't over... So, I guess you can't save him after all... :haveaday_

EDIT: ahA! I took a butt in point from Jason, yey me! XD

I am right. Damage Step is still going on. Remember that there are only 4 steps in the Battle Phase. Start Step and end Step do not involve battle. Therefore, all battle-related events that DON'T occur before Damage Calculation must occur after it BUT still in the Damage Step. If that made sense. Which I doubt it did, considering that I'm typing faster than I'm thinking.
