I think ude should start having team tournaments for VS. The game supports team play, but I have never seen a sanctioned team tournament. I think this would be fun, possibly see different cards get played in a competitive environment.

What do you guys think?

I would agree, but first they need to set some rules for team tournaments. Among the important ones, can your teammate know what cards you have in hand? (I would say no). Are you considered to control your teammate's character (I would say yes) and so forth.

In the rulebook that comes with the starter decks they have the rules for the alternate formats:

Alternate Play Formats:

Multiplayer:
The Marvel TCG can be played by 3 or more players using a
multiplayer format. Play is nearly identical to the standard head to head
version. During each step, the initiative player goes first then play revolves clockwise until all players have taken the step. At the end of the turn, the initiative is passed clockwise to the next player. When effects are placed on the chain, priority passes clockwise around the table.
During his attack step, a player can have his character attack an opposing character controlled by any other player. To win a multiplayer game, you must be the last player remaining. During the recovery phase, all players with zero endurance or less are out of the game. If all players are reduced to 0 or less on the same turn, the player with the highest (least negative) endurance wins. If all players have 0 or less endurance there's a tie for highest endurance, all players that are tied proceed to the next turn.

Grand Melee: A regular game of Marvel for any number of players. Last
man standing wins.

Team Alliance: A 2-on-2 game of Marvel. Teammates sit across from
each other. Plays just like grand melee, but teammates share an
endurance total of 100 and cannot attack each other. Play until only one
team is left.

Two-Headed Mutant: A 2-on-2 game of Marvel. Teammates sit next to
each other across from their opponents.

One team starts with initiative, which will be passed to the next team at
the end of the turn. Each team starts with 100 endurance. Each player
has his own resource row, but shares a single front and support row with
his teammate. Play exactly like a regular game of Marvel with some
exceptions.

I personally like the Team Alliance option for team play.

I know about the rulebook, but it leaves out some of the questions that get brought up in actual play (such as those that I mentioned). Team Alliance is certainly easier, but I think Two-Headed Mutant can be more challenging.

Your right the Two-Headed Mutant would be harder. It would definitly stop teammates from running the same team.

I would assume in a Two-Headed Mutant your teammate would see your hand since you and your teammate sit next to each other accross the table from your opponents. I would also assume you are considered to control our teammate's character just as you mentioned.

I guess unless there are tournments for the alternate formats we really won't know the correct answers to these questions.

I'd do team tournaments if I had enough people that would give me 4 teams show up to my tournament.

In any case, I think it's a good idea, but then you have to look towards ranking as well, they would have to recreate MANTIS to have a separate interface for team tournaments so that both of the participants in the teams would recieve ranking.

In any case, it's not as easy as it sounds, to do such a thing would require either A: Running two different tournaments at one time with the current software (could be 1.1 or 2.0, whichever you want to say, neither of them have team tourney abilities). Have both team mates on separate tournaments, when you do the first round pairing on one of them, match up the second to match it so that teams are facing teams. So just a simple manual pairing, if you've only got 4 teams (8 people), then that would give you 4 people to work with on each tournament, which means after the initial round pairing, they both should pair the exact same. With the first round winners facing off against each other and the first round losers facing each other. Then going by whatever round number you want, the longer you go, the more differences there could be, so if by chance there is a problem down the road where they don't pair off the same, just do the manual pairing again.

That's currently the only way doing a team tournament is possible if you want it to be sanctioned...

So really, it's a good idea, and I guess it is simple enough to pull off, but it would be a whole lot easier if MANTIS already supported teams... in any case, yeah... that's my point, ;).
