I live in a small town called Bowral in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Australia (Population
: 10402).
For anybody who is familiar with Cricket, this was the home & birthplace of Sir Donald Bradman.
Suffice to say, we all take our Cricket very seriously.
My town is also well known for it's tulips & we believe we can rival the Dutch in that regard.
Most of the inhabitants of Bowral are from Scottish descent (including myself), so we have a yearly festival full of Bagpipes, Kilts, Haggis etc.
Bowral is approximately 120 kms away from Sydney (& my nearest tournament).
This may not seem far away, however there's no public transit available in this town of a weekend & petrol (gas) down here is on $1-50 AUD a litre now. This means, that a return trip into Sydney, costs me about $60 (has a 6 cylinder "gas guzzler").
The weather over here (even in mountainous areas) is "sub tropical" in Summer, for example, by 10am it reaches about 34 Degrees C & by 3pm, we get heavy thunderstorms & flash flooding, often dropping the temperature down to about 14-16 Degrees C.
In Winter, it hovers around the -6 to 10 Degrees C mark & ocassionally snows, but not that often.
We often get very fierce winds during this time, which feels like they are cutting you to pieces.
The market in my area comprises: Organic Beef, Potatoes & Cut flowers for the Sydney market.
Bowral is also home to those seeking an "alternative" lifestyle & we have
tons of "New Age" bookshops & Antique shops. We also boast to have the deepest gorged railway in the Southern Hemisphere.
Welcome to Bowral.
