thousand eyes restrict and face down monsters

OK, this might seem like a silly question, but here goes......

Say I have thousand eyes restrict equipped with a face down monster (which was absorbed from the opponent). I know that thousand eyes would be considered 0/0, but can I look at the monster that I absorbed (for my own personal peace of mind), or is this considered an illegal game play? (because, as my friend argued, the card was face down placed by him, but as I argued, the face down card is now under my control)

Any takers? DaGuy, Fiendish, Skey?

Well Ill play my freind he does the smae thing but when monster is absorbed im not to fussed it can't relly do anything when its equipped can't see why it would be bad to look at, It will only end in the graveyard by some effect and you will see it then. Im guessing in tournments though you can't look at face down cards you set yourself so in short you probably can't look I could be wrong I am british.

Even in tournaments you can look at your own set cards.
