Token VS effects that puts them face-down

I'm a little confused...

Some players say that a token cannot be put-face down, so a card like Book of Moon cannot be activated against a monster token; other players says that Book of Moon destroys a token 'cause a face-down token doesn't exist (right, but are we sure that it is destroyed?); now I read this among the rulings about Swords of Concealing Light:

Since there's no such thing as a face-down Monster Token, Monster Tokens are simply changed to Defense Position when the effect of "Swords of Concealing Light" is applied.

And so?? What happens when an effect wants to put a token face-down?

a) The token won't be destroyed.

b) It depends on the effect. For "Book of Moon", the token isn't a valid target so if your opponent only has tokens, "Book of Moon" can't be activated. For something like "Swords of Concealing Light" that isn't targeting, the tokens are merely Shifted into defense position and nothing else. The rest of the effect resolves normally.
