torriental in battle phase??

this is my first post, so i hope i do it the right way

i have a question.

if player 1 has a face up ufo turtle, en player 2 attaks it with a face up gemini elf, no chains, player 1 special summons a solar flare dragon, (du to ufo turtles effect when destroyed as result of battle) can player 2 than chain torriental tribute on the special summon from solar flare dragon???

i think not because, the SS is step 2 of the battle phase, en TT can't be activated in the battle phase.

some other judges say the it can.

can somebody help me out?

nope, you cannot activate torrential, the ruling aplying to torrential, Bottomless Trap Hole, Michizure etc. applyings for the whole battle phase

Actually, you need to be more specific. The Battle Phase consists of several sub-steps. If you are still in the Battle Step (where attacks are declared) and say your opponent decides to use "Ultimate Offering" to summon a monster, you CAN use "Torrential Tribute" at that time.

With the example you described though, you are in the Damage step of the Battle Phase. That is the point when you could not activate cards like TT or BTH. So you need to specifiy at which point in the Battle Phase you are.

all right i saw the post and i thought thats not correct what i said.


what i mean is that gemini destroyes UFO Turtle, and the controler of ufo search for a solar flare en SS that on the field, and AT that moment torriental is activated.

can that or not.

then i appolygize for my wrong post, i havent gotten used to that ruling, i thought it applyed to the whole battle phase, so i also can activate torrential when my opp. summons Vampire Lord due to the effect of Pyramid Turtle?
or when he activates Call of the Haunted during the battle phase (when i declare an attack)?

Pyramid Turtle summons during the damage step. Torrential Tirbute may not be activated.

If Call of the Haunted was the last thing to resolve you may activate Torrential Tribute.

All the graveyard effects of UFO Turtle, Pyramid Turtle, Mystic Tomato & co. activate during the damage step, cause during the damage step monsters are considered destroyed and sent to the graveyard, if the attacking monster has enough strenght to destroy them.

So, a Torrential Tribute cannot be played against a summon caused by one of these monsters, cause it is a normal trap and doesn't change values of the monsters in play.

You cannot use Torrential Tribute during either player's damage step. You can however use it in the battle phase.
