Trap of Board Eraser v.s. Dice Jar

Da Twiggy Man!
I need to confirm this for a moment.

If I activate Dice Jar's effect, I'm not able to chain Trap of Board Eraser since it's effect isn't directly going to deal damage to me for sure. Such as something like Destruction Ring being activated would ensure that I would take damage and I would be able to activate Trap of Board Eraser.

The scenario I'm looking for the answer to is this.

Player A has a face down Dice Jar and Trap of Board Eraser. Player A flip summons Dice Jar. Dice Jar activates. Player B doesn't add anything to the chain block. Player A chains Trap of Board Eraser.

The thing I'm wondering about is if this is even a legal activation for Trap of Board Eraser.

Also in the instance with Destruction Ring, would the damage I take be negated or is the damage in general negated as a whole.

For other rulings, see "Barrel Behind the Door"

[Re: Barrel Behind the Door] You cannot activate "Barrel Behind the Door" against effects if you don't know for certain that they will inflict damage when the effect is activated. So you cannot activate it against "Dice Jar", "Judgment of Anubis", "Time Wizard" or "Ante". Your cannot activate "Barrel Behind the Door" against "Ceasefire" if all monsters on the field are face-down, or if all monsters on the field are face-up Normal Monsters, but you can activate it against "Ceasefire" if there is at least 1 face-up Effect Monster on the field.

Trap of Board Eraser:

You can only activate this card when an effect that inflicts damage to your Life Points is activated (except Battle Damage). Negate the Effect Damage you receive and your opponent then selects 1 card from his/her hand and discards it.

Your opponent will still be affected by Destruction Ring.

Trap of Board eraser is like Barrel behind the door, it only "deflects", or in this case "reshapes" the Effect Damage into something else. I would think that's what this ruling means:
Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End
"Barrel Behind the Door" and "Trap of Board Eraser" can be chained to "Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End"'s effect. "Barrel Behind the Door" is, itself, sent to the Graveyard by "Chaos Emperor Dragon - Envoy of the End"'s effect and counts for an additional 300 points as a result.
"Negate the Effect Damage you receive..." and your opponent discards a card.

And with that said, I cannot even imagine how that player could activate Trap of Board Eraser in chain to Dice Jar when he cannot activate Barrel Behind the Door to the same effect.
