US Rulings vs Australia Rulings?

Hello

I was involved in a small local tournament today in Australia. I play a Gravekeeper Deck with Mystic Tomato included. With Necrovalley on the field, when my Tomato was destroyed, I went to use its effect to grab a Dark Gravekeeper from my Deck. My opponent said I could not do that as it involved the Graveyard. The local 'judge' agreed with my opponent. The judge even called his friend from Upper Deck Entertainment Australia who supported him... The Netrep Rulings and forums (and UDE in the USA) state quite clearly that Mystic Tomato's effect can be activated in this situation!

What is the problem here? Aren't these Netrep rulings official for the whole western world or are there different rulings for each country?

I am now confused where I should go for useful and relevant information!!! I am now not sure what to believe in terms of game-play and rulings.

Could someone in power please advise me where to turn for Australian rulings and information?

Thanks

Quite simply, they were in error. There is no difference in rulings between the US and any other UDE controlled territory. There are ocassional differences between UDE and Konami territories, but those are quickly being brought in line together.

Going through official channels would certainly be helpful. Since no one from UDE actually frequents these forums (UDE employees, that is -- I'm merely a volunteer, and it *does* make sense for a Netrep to visit a forum originally based on his namesake every now and then, does it not?), you're not going to find an easy solution here.

Here is a list of various methods of action:

1. Point out the error using the official FAQ on the web site.
2. Contact the organized play dept. for UDE in Australia.
3. Write to judge@upperdeckcom.
4. Post on the judge list.

In that order.

Anyway, though, bishop was right. UDE's rulings are the same for all territories in which they take care of organized play, which means just about every location outside of Asia.

And as an aside, since I haven't said it in a while, we very much appreciate you and Curtis coming to hang out with us here. I hope that we continue to provide a warm welcome and place for your two to hang out and contribute to our growing community.

Thanks for being around.

If that still don't work, then ask them what does the term "involve" mean.

Involve means messing around with the Graveyard other than itself right? Now does being sent to the GY mess around with it? No, it was simply dumped there. Now does its effect mess around with the GY? No, because it special summons from the deck.

As far as I am aware, UDE has now the full control (in place of Konami) of all official English/European card games, so Australia should be no exception. We Europeans do not have a seperate ruling from UDE (in fact Konami has the final control of all rulings, UDE only dishes them out, so no matter which country, as long as it is Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG, the rulings are exact same, doesn't matter if you play in Canada or the Moon)

I've a friend who's gone to Austrailia and he too plays, he's told me about what things are like over there and they do seem to have misconceptions about how a number of cards work and what the official rulings are on them, he's a bit better than average as a duelist but is finding it easy over there and getting into the top rankings in the tournaments he plays in.

Official UDE Guidance

Here is the reply I received from UDE when I queried them about this issue:

Hello,

Actually, whoever said they called here must have called elsewhere, because the judge was wrong to tell you that Necrovalley WOULD negate Mystic Tomato. It does not negate effects triggered when SENT to the graveyard (unless that effect is targeting a card in the graveyard). So, you would get the effect of Mystic Tomato with Necrovalley is on the field.

I would advise you to use www.yugioh-card.com and www.metagame.com.

I will now talk with the local guy about this and a few other rulings we disagreed on. I am sure he will be good about it.

Thanks for all the help and advice. I may have to battle this again in the future but at least I know where to turn for final guidance. That said, I also know that the judge's ruling on the day is final, despite whether he is right or not.

And this is why if I were judging I'd make sure to have a hard/soft copy of the Specific Rulings and ARRJ, bad judging just leaves people feeling cheated and disgruntled, always best to do a quick double check just to be sure and it'd allow the judge to show the player the exact ruling on the situation so at least they know there's no favourtism going on.
