Vampire Lord question...

This came up when some people were playing at school today. They came to me at lunch and told me the problem. The question is if my opponent attacks my face up attack position vampire lord and it has a lower attack than my V. lord will V.lord gets its effect of sending a spell, trap or monster to the graveyard since it was considered battle damage?

Vampire lords effect:Each time this card inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent, declare 1 card type (Monster, Spell, or Trap). Your opponent selects 1 card of that type from his/her Deck and sends it to the Graveyard. Also, when this card is destroyed and sent to your Graveyard by your opponent's card effect, it is Special Summoned to the field during your next Standby Phase.

all v lord has to do is damage.

its kinda like this situation.

Giant Orc on the field vs. a Berserk gorilla.

will giant orc then go into defense?

nope, why because Giant orc has to attack not get attacked.

for Vlord, it just says when ever it does battle damage.

either opponent rams something in it, you attack with it. etc..

its crazy, how some peeps come up with some odd situations at times.

Yes...

Yes V. Lord would get it's effect because battle damage is ANY damage done in battle by monsters. If the card said direct damage though, well that would be different than battle damage simply because Vampire Lord would have to make a direct attack instead of having carry-over damage. Hope this helps ^_^
