VWXYZ's 2nd effect?

skey23

Council of Heroes
Ok, I've already posted this to the Judge's List, but I figured I'd ask here as well.

Did anybody else notice this?
If you attack a face-down Attack Position monster and activate this card's effect to change its Battle Position, the monster will be changed to face-up Attack Position. If it has a Flip Effect it will not be activated, as stated on the card.
Um..since when does face-down ATTACK to face-up ATTACK end up being a battle position change?

What happens to a face-down DEFENSE position monster that's targetted by this effect? Does it got to face-up DEFENSE, or to face-up ATTACK?

Hopefully I'll get an answer back before 7:15 tomorrow morning when I leave for the event..lol...takes a deeeeeeeeep breath and holds it.......:drugged:

Face-down attack to face-up attack isnt a Battle Position change. Face-down attack to face-up defense is.

That's why the argument for monsters that may re-flip themselves face-down once per turn, can still manually flip summon if they have not changed Battle Position, but cannot use effect to flip face-down again, started.

Either that, or it is just using poor wording on changing a face-down card to face-up.

Which was just recently adjusted. An effect change in a battle position no longer "burns" your manual position change for the turn. I never thought that made sense anyway. Oddly enough, no one in my meta was playing it that way. They were playing the way it eventualy got ruled to begin with. Weird.

Since skey23 already made this topic, I just want to ask 1 more question and notify others on another thing about this card.

The first thing, this card can be Special Summoned from the Graveyard with cards like Re-Fusion, Premature Burial, Call of the Haunted, and so on. Want to know why?

XYZ-Dragon Cannon
"X-Head Cannon" + "Y-Dragon Head" + "Z-Metal Tank"
This card cannot be Special Summoned except by removing from play the above cards on your side of the field; then you can Special Summon this card from your Fusion Deck (You do not use "Polymerization"). Discard 1 card from your hand to destroy 1 card on your opponent's side of the field.

VWXYZ-Dragon Catapult Cannon
"VW-Tiger Catapult" + "XYZ-Dragon Cannon"
This card can only be Special Summoned from your Fusion Deck by removing from play the above cards on your side of the field. (You do not use "Polymerization"). Once per turn, remove from play 1 card on your opponent's side of the field. When this card attacks, you can change the battle position of the attack-target monster. (Flip Effects are not activated at this time.)

Notice that both cards have different texts, but more importantly notice that XYZ-Dragon Cannon is a dreaded NOMI with the text "except" written on it.

With that resolved, I wanted to ask about the ruling on VWXY-Dragon Catapult Cannon's MANIDTORY effect. If during my Main Phase 1, my opponent for example only has 1 card on the field, and it is a monster I assume I cannot attack it? I have to use the effect first and then I can direct attack. What about when my opponent has a monster on the field and a face-down Spell or Trap Card. Am I able to for example enter the Battle Phase, attack and destroy the monster and enter Main Phase 2 and use the effect on the face-down Spell or Trap Card or am I forced to do this effect in Main Phase 1?

It says "once per turn", it doesnt say when you have to use it. Im assuming it must be done in either Main Phase of your turn. If you just happen to destroy their only card in Battle, then that means you can't use his effect.

I haven't read the ruling cause the format gives me a headache from the Judges List, so I guess I'll have to just check Ronin.

EDIT:
"¢ This card's first effect is not optional. If the opponent has any cards on their side of the field, you must use this effect during your turn. This effect targets and can be chained to.

Well, looks like it doesnt matter which Main Phase, as long as you are aware that as long as there remains a card on the field, you MUST use his effect before you end your turn.

I'd say because anybody who can successfully get this thing out on the field DESERVES to be able to bring it back again w/o having to go through all that stoopid hassle again!

We were talking about it yesterday at the preview, if I ran up against somebody that was able to get this thing on the field against me, I'd scoop right then and there because they deserve to win that match for all the work they had to put in to get that thing on the field..lol.

VWXYZ seems to be a semi-nomi. It specifies a way to get it out of the Fusion deck, but offers no such provision for or against its being special summoned from the graveyard or RFG.

With all the extra support like Roll Out! to bring them back equipped from the graveyard (for W, Y, and Z), plus Frontline Base to help get them from your hand faster, may not be so bad for pulling them out. Imagine Heart of the Underdog when you draw X, then show it and draw V (also normal) then show it and draw one of the unions? With the right hand, you could feasibly get it out in one turn. (Chances being slim to none granted... LOL)
