Another D-Hero is coming our way. And I honestly love D-Heros. Heck, currently, Diamond Dude Turbo is doing havoc. And with this dude out, even with the 1x Stratos/Dimension Fusion limitation, it might just give enough push to support the theme even more then ever before. Another words, this is another D-Hero that'll have a huge impact as much as Malicious is doing right now. The effect is that kickass.
-----------
Destiny Hero - Disk CommanderDARK/Warrior - Effect/1/300/300
When this card is successfully Special Summoned from your Graveyard, draw 2 cards from your deck.
-----------
First, let's look at the stats. It's a LV1. Well, back when TER was legal, this meant something... but now LV1 means nothing since it's banned.... And this thing only have 300ATK/DEF... stat wise, it's crap. In fact, this is probably the weakest stat among all the D-Heros. The only good thing it might be useful for stat wise is for Crush Card Virus... (In fact, alot of D-Heros meet the condition of Crush Card) but that card isn't available for the general public... And oh yeah, it's a warrior so ROTAble.
So, stat wise, it's crap. But who cares. D-Heros are known to have crappy stats. It's the effect that makes them somewhat broken if combined together. ANd this one got one of the most broken effect yet.
If you can special summon this card from the graveyard, draw 2 cards. That's HUGE.
Okay, there are very VERY few cards out there that lets you draw 2 cards. And when a s/t effect lets you draw 2 cards, that's usually at most, +1. (Pot of Greed, Avarice, etc) But most others end up being +0, (Destiny Draw, Treasure Map, etc) and some others end up being minus card advantage cause of activation requirement or some other negative effect. (Accumulated Fortune, Reckless Greed, etc.) But still, the draw power is good that people play them anyway.
But this card is no where near the level of those cards. No, when a MONSTER card have an effect of drawing/searching, it's overall even more powerful then s/t draw effect. Why? Cause when you activate s/t, after resolution, it goes to the grave, so overall, it cost a card to use the effect. But when a monster lets you draw a card, or let you search a card from your deck/graveyard, you get a card, and the monster stays on the field. So overall, you didn't lose anything and gained a +1. These are known as "floaters". And good example of these guys are Dekoichi, Sangan, Gadgets, E-Hero Stratos, MoF, Mask of Darkness, etc. and potentially cards like Cyber Phoenix, Card Trooper, etc.
But when a monster lets you draw 2 freaking cards.... this is a SUPER rare case and usually end up being almost impossible or pot-luck to activate. Let's compare some other monsters that lets you draw 2 cards.
E-Hero Bubbleman: Okay, the only way he'll let you draw 2 cards is literally when you have no cards on your field AND hand, and you topdeck bubbleman. That's it. i.e. NOT WORTH your time on a total DEM pot-luck. (Only Jaden can do this, repeatedly... for some odd reason)
Dekoichi: To get this effect, you must have some random Normal Monster that I don't remember the name of on the field which also have crappy stats.... not worth it.
Dark Mimic LV3: This requires to be special summoned by LV1. (Which that requires to be on the field for 1 turn for stand-by phase...) And THEN be destroyed as a result of battle. Too slow and people will so see this through and there's so many ways to prevent this and failing.... also not worth it. And since it'll have to be destroyed in battle, another +1 overall, not +2.
Electric Snake: Dark World Broww: To get this effect, it must be discarded by your opponent's card effect. Which is another pot-luck. And they days of Electric Snake died once Dark World came. (Seriously, this card literally died and croaked the day EEN got released) And people rather get Goldd/Sillva get discarded by your foe's effect then Broww. Not to mention with Kakkhi/Gren being released, overall, the use of Broww is very weak and not worth it. And these guys, they don't stay on the field so even after you draw 2 cards, it's +1, not +2 like other Monsters that lets you draw 2 cards.
I think that's it... can't think of any more Monsters that lets you draw 2 cards. Anyway, when a monster lets you draw 2 cards... AND STILL stay on the field... (Snake/Broww/MimicLV3 doesn't fit this bill) that's +2.... that's like Ultimate Floater Turbo card advantage wise.
So this card is instant +2... which is like activating Diamond Dude effect and sending Destiny Draw from your topdeck. But this card have limitations. It MUST be only be graveyard special summon. Too bad, cause if it was special summoned by any method and you still draw 2 cards... oh man, the possibilities are ENDLESS! (e.g. Tomato, Reasoning, Monster Gate, Dimension Fusion, RftDD, Marauding, Dasher, Last Will, etc. etc. etc.) Yeah, if it was that, I would be rating this card 11/10 screaming for limitation/banning cause every Tomato Control is at least gunna run 1x, or more. (it'll be like having a 2nd/3rd Sangan) along with every deck that runs Monster/Reasoning on it. (Nobody calls LV1) Seriously, the only other deck theme that IMO I can think of that can get +2 or more card advantage with monster effect is just Dark World, discarding a fistfull of Goldd/Sillva with Card Destruction/Morphing Jar (Also used to be Graceful Charity as well)
So let's go to the effect. What are some Graveyard special summoning ways. Well, the obvious ones are Premature Burial/CotH. I think if you want to run this card, running those 2 is probably a must. What else. There's also Question. (Yay, the guessing game card) Then there's some iffy cards like The Creator, Spear Cretin... but they're not that great... So overall, the best support you can run with this card is Destiny Hero - Fear Monger. This dude is overall overshadowed by his brother Diamond Dude. Well, now it got some time to shine since it got another good target other then Dasher for a beatstick with Fear Monger. I mean, summoning this card with Fear Monger effect and drawing 2 cards... is so sick that your foe will NEVER EVER destroy Fear Monger in result of battle when they know you got this monster in the graveyard. (Guess what, Fear Monger is also only 1000ATK Dark Monster... man, I so want a Crush Card with this deck theme. And remember, Malicious is also only 800ATK Dark Monster... seriously, D-Hero and Crush Card Virus fits so well, just like DasherDeckVirus, i.e. uses Dasher for DDV, that's popular.)
So overall, we got another really good D-Hero. Before, it was just Dasher/Malicious/Diamond Dude for D-Heros(Fear Monger was a "maybe") And now we got Disk Commander and we can finally add Fear Monger in maindeck for almost all D-Hero decks to support Disk Commander. And more options means more power for Stratos as well. (Usually, unless the player have a Destiny Draw ready, most cases, Stratos searchs out Diamond Dude and that was like the only option. Now, if they have Malicious in the graveyard, they can remove/special summon it out and then summon Stratos for a instant Breaker effect... but that's something else.)
Now, is this card DEM of all cards? No. It needs to be special summoned from the graveyard to have ANY use. And that's a pretty strict requirement. Other then the usual Preme/CotH, it pretty much demands the use of 3x Fear Monger and thus overall, fit's in a D-Hero deck only. (Eek, with Destiny Draw and now THIS CARD, D-Hero decks got so much draw power it's not even funny) And the prob with this card is that, once you use it's effect, stat wise, this card is crap. So... 300ATK/DEF isn't gunna do ANY USE. So it pretty much demands to be tributed instantly. (It is a +2 supreme floater. Even after tribute, it's still +1 for you) So after you get it out, tribute it for tribute summon, or Monster Gate, or Enemy Controller, something to make it worth the card gain. (Too bad Metamorphosis and "for the general public" Crush Card Virus is out of the question.)
--------------------
In the end, I give this card a
9 out of 10
Too bad it must be special summoned from the graveyard, and thus need Fear Monger support. If not, (i.e. if it's special summoned in anyway, and still draw 2 cards) this card will be splashed in ANY deck format that have any form of special summoning power. (Tomato Control, Reasoning deck, etc. etc. etc.) I mean, think of Inferno Reckless Summon with Disk Commando if it lets you draw 2 cards if special sumoned in any method... that's +6 draw power right there... (i.e. FREAKING SCARY!) Well, I GUESS you can still do this if you have 3x Disk Commando in your graveyard, and then special summon 1, then IRS the rest of them out... but that's total pot-luck that's not worth it. (With that combo, I guess you can even add Symbol of Heritage... but like I said, too much combo-pot-luck oriented, not to mention doesn't work in reality anyway to boot) Anyway, that's the reason why it's 9 out of 10 instead of 11 out 10.
D-Heros are getting more and more scary by the minute. Now lets see how long it takes to get D-Hero Plasma out in the US. (It's confirmed to be released in JPN OCG, so we know the effect text already)
