Greetings all. On October 2004, netrep.net set up a message board in order to give players and judges an effective resource for garnering accurate information about the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG. The approach taken, was to to create an environment where everyone, regardless of experience or tenure, could freely exchange ideas without the negativity or flaming that is so often associated with Yu-Gi-Oh! and an online community. A place where your younger brother could ask a very basic question, without being made to feel small or ignorant for asking, but also a place where experienced players could delve into the deeper complexities of the game and address situations that helped both the experienced and inexperienced alike. A place by gamers, for gamers.

Since that time, the Netrepâ„¢ Forums have undergone many changes. At one time known as Innovation Gaming Community Forums, or IGForums, they expanded their purview and opened the door for discussion for other game types like Shaman King and Duel Masters. They also began the earliest stages of developing the Council of Heroes and the Triumvirate, the group of moderators that not only oversee the day to day activities of the community, but also seek ways to help make it grow.

The forums have undergone many changes since those early days. Different skin, different faces, the "City" thematic that has since become our hallmark, the addition of many new sections (some successful, and some not so successful) and ideas have shaped cogonline.net into a unique and distinctive community, the likes of which there is no equal. That is not to say that we are better, nor worse then any other gaming community out there. But that is to say that there are none exactly like it.

With the spirit of the community in mind, here's you chance to have a hand in developing that community. The Council of Heroes is once again looking to expand into new territories, and we're going to need new moderators to help us do that. As has always been the goal of the Council of Heroes, we're looking for people not to simply "police" the City, but who also have a genuine interest in developing the community and expanding its interests and usefulness.

If your interested in joining the Council of Heroes and helping to moderate the City, please send me a PM stating:
  • Who you are.
  • What sections you would like to moderate.
  • And why you feel you would be good for the position.
All PMs will be presented to the Council for consideration and we'll make a formal announcement after final decisions have been made. Although not a requirement, we are also looking for moderators who are interested in developing some of the other gaming sections of our forum.

If you have any questions, feel free to post them here. Thanks for you interest in the Community and good fortune to you.

Does this mean CoG 2.0 is getting closer to being a reality?
We're close, but I'm not sure how close. Certainly closer then we've ever been before (being that we've been talking about CoG 2.0 since 2005), but were not ready to set a launch date, just yet. Rest assured, I'm doing everything in my power, which is somewhat limited, to make it happen as soon as possible.

what exactly do you mean?

Think of it like this. If ya see a news story that would benefit people ya post it. Ya see someone looking for advice ya give it to him as best ya can. Ya see a new game system on the market ya let people know about it. Theres tonnes more that ya can do but thats enough to start with. Ya should be able to come up with a hundred more ideas yourself.

That's essentially it. For most forums, "moderate" means just that. Keep an eye on things, close threads when they need to be. Delete posts, issue warnings, bans etc. But the Council of Heroes does far more then that. We're not just a "police force" that lays down the law all the time, although that is part of the job. But we are also looking for folks to help develop the forums. People who wish to be a helping hand when in need, and who have ideas for making the forum a better place to be. People who are also good at working with others.

Issuing warnings and keeping the peace is a large part of what we do here. But there is so much more to it that, and we're looking for individuals who have the desire and talent to help in those areas too.

I'm going to bump this one more time just to let you know applications are still open. Then we'll lock it up here in few. Thank you to all those who have applied thus far. We will post the results in a few days.

Thanks again to everyone who applied. If you weren't selected as moderators this time around, don't be discouraged. There are still other roles to be filled to help build up our community, and need volunteers.

We wanted to congratulate our newly assigned Council of Heroes members. Some are new to the position, and some are familiar faces. Alphabetically they are:

densetsu_x
Dillie-O
EmeraldDragon
redlordofvampires

Congratulations everyone. We look forward to your hand helping to shape our community.
