Well, obviously the Crystal Beasts, but what else?

Field Barrier?
Gravi-Crush/Magna-Slash Dragon?
Dweller in the Depths?
Gem Flash Energy?
Crystal Raigeki?

What exactly makes a great Crystal Beast deck?

It entirely depends on what exactly you are aiming for. Personally, I'd prefer to go along the lines of an Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins build along with Crystal Abundance. Crystal Abundance has massive potential and could very well eliminate your opponent in one turn, depending on how much they overextend. Ancient City - Rainbow Ruins is handy for multiple purposes, which would involve negating your opponent's magics and traps, and draw power for drawing into necessary pieces you require.

From the list you suggested, the only one I would actually consider would be Crystal Raigeki. Simply because it's generic removal which could help very easily. As for the other support, mainly a couple Rare Values for draw power, Crystal Blessing if you wish to speed up Crystal Abundance, Crystal Beacon is nice for bringing out Carbuncle for a swarm and for proceeding to bring out the desired Crystal Beasts to further speed up the game. There's many different options. Crystal Promise, I wouldn't be too sure on. Sure it can bring out Carbuncle, but it mainly goes against the flow of what you're trying to do, which is building a backrow for the city.

That's all of my advice anyways. :)

obviously the main ones for any crystal beast deck your going for is 3x- sapphire pegasus and 3x- rare value

crystal promise does work because even if the monsters destroyed again it just returns back to the s/t zone so you really dont lose anything

hamon does work in some of the crystal beast decks but definitly not in the crystal abundance otk.
Crystal Blessing works with most of the decks because the point of all of them is to have a big back row.

None of the cards you mentioned other than the one above is worth running(why field barrier? as city already protects itself)

you know, I like to use burn with them. Like let them get more than 2 monsters out and my backfield has 4 c/b I give them a lava golem, so they lose 1000 on their turn and I set dimension wall, they bring out something else and attack with golem, I whack them with 3000 damage with golem. Them on my turn i use crystal abundance and smack for the rest, but again this is a time deck and if your not use to waiting for the perfect time, then don't try it. Monarch canbe very good with certain c/b deck builds.

the only decks with other fields that are played are other crystal beasts and maybe a harpie deck. I still wouldnt use it in hopes of those 2 decks and the chance of even drawing it, youd rather draw into another copy of the field spell anyways than into field barrier because even if its destroyed by another field you could destroy theirs and if you wanted you could play it on top of your ancient city and re-draw(assuming you have 4 crystal beasts in your s/t zone)

Only from card effects. A new Field Spell Card can knock it off quite easily.

Field Barrier can be quite a good card, if you want to keep your Field Spell Card absolutely safe.

if your opponent gets a raiza out and bounces city this card will sit on your field taking up 1 zone while making you unable to put down the field card that it was trying to protect

But he still can run whatever he wants >_>

Even if the opponent does bounce the field spell with Raiza, Field Barrier is still 1 Continoius spell on the field. And I've experimented with Gravi-Crush/Magna-Slash Dragon in a Crystal Beast deck, and they work really well. In fact, I get rid of Field Barrier instead of my Crystallized Beasts if I have the chance. Also, Gravi-Crush works very well. Magna-Slash...eh.

ya, but while you send them off to the graveyard for the dragons they couldve been used for better card purposes like city, rare value, crystal promise, crystal raigeki, crystal abundance, or even to summon hamon

just curious... has anyone tried the green baboons & nimbles in this deck yet???? should be available soon...

I keep hearing about how good the Green Baboon would be with the Crystal Beasts. I don't see it since in order to get the Baboon's effect, the Beast type would have to be destroyed AND sent to the GY. While you have the option to do so with the CBs, that defeats the purpose of running them.

And Giant Trunade <> a Good Card with them. You don't want them back in your hand. You want them on the field, in the S/T Zone.
