The first Pokémon game I had was Yellow, and I obviously got Pikachu for that. Then I progressed through the games, using probably all the starting pokémon at some point.

i know but it was just as bad as gastly haunter and gengar reciving a super effective hits from pyscic moves. i did like some of the moves Charizard was able to learn, but there was one thing i really didn't like about the early version of charizard and that was it couldn't learn Fly.

I haven't played Diamond and Pearl.

Just to let you guys know. There's a program for online pokemon gameplay. The software is called NetBattle. You probably could google a site called Smogon and download it off their site. Completely free and the site has a tutoring system to help train newbies the ropes of how to play competitively. The competitive online play makes YGO SJC's look like a small kiddy pool. On a great note, the rules pretty much remain the same in terms of tournament rules and the fact that skill has a lot to do with winning than luck does.

I must warn you though. The community on Smogon's message board can be pretty cruel at times. You always have to watch your tongue and ignore people's bad attitudes. Moderators there don't take crap and some of them are nice people.

I always got the leafy guys cos i like green. I also just randomly battled monsters so that i was always pushing the limit level wise for keeping control of them.

Play against a real opponent and you might re-think that statement of the games not being great. They probably are some of the hardest games to get very good at in a short period of time. They test how well of a strategtist you can become.

in red/blue i started with charmander it's pity thaat cahrizard as so many weaknesses water,rock,electirc and ice
gastly,haunter and genger are weak to physchic because they carry the poison attribute.
oddd weakness is physhic to bug.
