Was wondering if someone in the know (unlike myself  ), could tell me what the rulings would are on these.
I'm going to a tornament in 2 weeks, and a lot of this stuff is still new to me.

1. Attacking & tributing. Can I tribute a monster I just attacked with?

Example: A level 4 Monster has been on my field since my previous turn. I attack with it, then tribute it for a higher level Monster. Legal or not?

2. Can I tribute a card I have played Wild Nature's release on before it is destroyed? The text reads "Destroy the monster during the End Phase". I'd like to think that as I'm tributing it before the End Phase, this would be legal. Of course, if I can't do point 1, this point becomes mute.

Example: Use WNR on Skull Dog Marron for a 3350 ATK. Then tribute it for a higher level Monster.

3. For 'Summoner of Illusions' effect, the 'Empyre Group Advanced Rulings Research Journal' states that 'the tribute of a monster is mandatory if possible'... So can I take this to mean that if you don't have a Monster to tribute (not possible), you can carry out the effect anyway. Please say yes :)

4. Can I use 'Book of Moon' on 'Summoner of Illusions' to keep it on the field another turn? (Read this being done somewhere).

Example: My opponent attacks 'Summoner of Illusions'. If I put out 'Master of Oz' and use/chain 'Book of Moon' to it, will this legally keep it on the field until my turn?

5. As you can place 'Guardian Sphinx' into face-down position duruing the Main Phase, does this mean you can use his effect each turn/more than once?

Appreciate help on any of these.
Thanks to anyone that takes the time to read through these

1. Sure you can, so long as:

A) You exit your Battle Phase (you can only Normal Summon during Main Phase 1 or Main Phase 2).

and

B) You have not tried to Normal Summon earlier in the turn.

2. Sure. The monster is not destroyed until the End Phase, so if you have the ability to Normal Summon during Main Phase 2 you can Tribute the affected monster(s). Just make sure you use only the proper amount of Tributes (1 for 5-6 stars, 2 for 7 or more stars).

3. I would kind of agree with that and kind of not. His effect would be forced to activate (it's a Flip Effect, so if nothing's negating it then it MUST activate), but I don't think his effect would respolve properly since you don't have a monster to Tribute (remember you can't Tribute him, so there could be an instance where you can't Tribute a monster) for the cost of his effect. But I can see the flip side [no pun intended], so I'd prefer if someone else answered this.

4. Remember that you cannot use Summoner of Illusions as a Tribute for his own effect. However, if you could offer him as a Tribute that would be done right when the effect is activated.

I think what you're asking is, "How can I keep Master of Oz on the field while using Book of Moon?" The answer is that you flip Master of Oz face-down. This removes the condition that he is to be destroyed at the End Phase of the turn he's Summoned.

5. Guardian Sphinx and other similar monsters are a bit tricky, but in any instance where you can get his "mass return" effect it can only be done once.

Example 1: You have Guardian Sphinx in face-up Attack Position and it's been that way for at least 1 turn. You flip him face-down thanks to his effect. You cannot Flip Summon him since you have changed his Battle Position (from Attack Position to Defense Position).

Example 2: You have Guardian Sphinx in face-down Defense Position and it's been that way for at least one turn. You Flip Summon him to get his effect. You can flip him face-down thanks to his effect, but you cannot Flip Summon him again since you have already manually changed his Battle Position.

Example 3: You have a face-up Defense Position Guardian Sphinx and it's been that way for at least one turn. You can flip him face-down in Defense Position, then Flip Summon him and get his effect. In this case, the battle position didn't change when you flipped him face-down (Defense Position to Defense Position). However, after you Flip Summon him you cannot use his effect to flip him face-down since you have already changed his battle position (when you Flip Summoned him).

Ok, just to add what has been said:

1. already answered.

2. Yes, you may tribute a monster before it gets destroyed in the end phase, as long as it is for Legal purposes, like a Tribute Summon if you haven't summoned that turn.

3. It is required to tribute a monster to get the Fusion Monster. That rule says that if you have a monster and Summoner of Illusions gets flipped, you will have to tribute the monster, even if you don't want to. I'm sure that people would use more the Summoner of Illusions if the tribute could be skipped to Special Summon.

4. Talking about the example, if Summoner of Illusions was flipped due to an attack, you can only use Book of Moon after the Battle Step in which it was attacked, meaning that Summoner of Illusions must survive the attack. Book of Moon should be used before the Damage Step, where it gets flipped, to prevent the attack. Waboku is a better choice for this case. For more information, look at the Battle Step in yugioh-card.com or in Netrep.net.

5. Ugh, that is long and Blue-Eyes Black has given examples vbmenu_register("postmenu_28502", true); . If something else, I recommend you to see more in the bold directions in the FAQs, section Advanced Gameplay/Flipping Face-Down: "Guardian Sphinx", "Royal Keeper", etc.

the guardian sphinx thing is about the whole changing the position of the monster 1 time per turn.

so you can flip him up, then flip him down (using his effect of course) but you cant flip him up unless its by another effect (book of taiyou) [only flipping him up] his effect is a flip summon effect.

so that means you have to manually flip him face up to attack position.

the whole thing with guardian sphynx is a matter on what flipped him face up or face down.

the most basic thing you have to remember is.

IF the position of a monster was changed by anything (you or effect) then it can no longer change its position only by Effect.

Yes this means that if you have a face up defense magician of faith, and you use book of moon then you can flip summon it in attack because it never had its position change.

when we talk about positions we reffer to Attack to defense, to defense to attack. weather its face up defense or face down defense. :)

hope this little tid bit of info helps you on all your positioning questions. :D

Thanks Blue-Eyes Black.
That's cleared a lot of things up for me.

Yes, I stuffed up question 4, should have read can I use 'Book of Moon' on 'Master of Oz', which you guessed right. Cool.

And thanks for the Guardian Sphinx scenario's, makes sense.

Maybe a moderator can give us a ruling on Summoner's tribute ruling sometime.
