Two of the cards that I can think of are Volcanic Doomfire and Evil Hero Malicious Fiend. Both card effects force the opponent to attack that one particular card during their Battle Phase. Evil Hero Malicious Fiend is the better of the two in that all of your opponent's monster must be turned into attack position and must attack Malicious Fiend with ALL of their monsters. Attacking into a monster with a 3500 ATK is a hard nut to swallow if you have Treeborn Frog on the field.
Staunch defender also makes All of your opponents monster to attack a target of your choosing.
But there is a condition to this... your opponent must declare an attack first.
Not to mention that Staunch Defender won't change the attack target of the attack it is activated in response to. The attack's already been declared, and Staunch Defender only restricts what you can say when you say "I'll attack <monster> with my <monster>".
It's a good card, though, and the best one around for that kind of thing.
Activating Staunch Defender causes a Replay, in which the opponent must choose to continue attacking, and must attack the monster selected by Staunch Defender. Activate it in response to the first attack, and all your other monsters will be saved, regardless of what happens to the targeted monster (If it's destroyed, there are no more battles).
I has a whole nice example involving 5 Blue-Eyes White Dragons and everything, before I noticed the second ruling ("Activating the card causes a Replay"). I'm sure I made the same mistake ages ago and was corrected (but I maintain it originally didn't work like that), but it seems I forgot again. Well, I won't anymore.
Your right, I don't remember Staunch Defender causing a replay in the old days. That actually means it's much more effective with Spirit Reaper then I originally thought it was.
That entirely depends on whether Spirit Reaper is going to die by a targeted effect anyway, which is what I was getting at.
When you select "Spirit Reaper" or "The Reaper on the Nightmare" as the target of "Staunch Defender", resolve the chain, and after the effect of "Staunch Defender" resolves, the selected monster is destroyed. A replay will occur, but the opponent can no longer attack because the selected monster is gone.
