YZ-Tank Dragon, MFC-054

YZ-Tank Dragon, MFC-054

(LIGHT/Machine/6/2100/2200)
"Y-Dragon Head" + "Z-Metal Tank" This card cannot be Special Summoned except by removing from play the above cards on your side of the field; then you can Special Summon this card from your Fusion Deck (You do not use "Polymerization"). Discard 1 card from your hand to destroy 1 face-down Monster Card on your opponent's side of the field.

Alright, overall, I think this is the most underrated and most underappreciated XYZ mini-Fusion. In today's meta, this card can dominate. So many monsters hit the field in face-down defense, it isn't funny. This bad boy kills those nasty Flip Effects, and if you take away the pain of discarding via Night Assailant, it's free Nobleman of Crossouts! Without the whole deck removal part, and the RFP part. I see this card getting abuse with Tsukuyomi as well for a free hit every turn.

Main combo for this card involves 1 other card: Night Assailant. Perhaps a Swords of Concealing Light for flavor, but mostly just Night Assailant.

Now this card has several things going for it. It has above-par ATK and DEF, so it'll stay alive. It's effect can be used as many times as you can discard and there's a target. It's Light, and it's a Machine, so there isn't a lack of support here.

The main disadvantage of this card is that you have to discard for it's effect, this is only if you lack Night Assailants, and it's a 1-1 without Night Assailants which is still a good trade. The other disadvantage of this card is that it cannot be properly Special Summoned, so once it dies it's useless. We'll have to see if Power Bond will cure this.

When playing with YZ-Tank Dragon, don't be afraid to break every monster they have, unless they've already shown to possess Sinister Serpent. Or just keep an End of Anubis handy so the fun can begin.

The best deck for this card is still the Fusion deck. But it belongs in the fusion deck of EVERY DECK, as YZ-Tank Dragon, until the next ban list, is the best mini-XYZ fusion we have.

Advanced: 4.5/5 Great here.
Traditional: 3.5/5 Not nearly as dominating here.
Limited: 0/5 Not feeling it.
Sealed Pack: 0/5 A Waste of a rare.

Today's card is YZ-Tank Dragon, which, strangely, has no rulings at all"¦ Nevertheless, it's still a good card to run in XYZ decks, even if I prefer a few of the other XYZ fusions over this one. Destroying face-down monsters can be invaluable, since a lot of the time, they can be Magician of Faith or another flip-effect monster like that. One of its problems is that you can only use it in an XYZ deck, and that it can be slow to get out. All of that makes me a tad biased against it.

Combos and YZ don't exactly mix all of the time. There isn't too much you can do with it. I can think of a few things, but none are terribly good. One is that, in Traditional format, if your opponent has Imperial Order on the field, you can still have a Nobleman of Crossout-esque effect with YZ. Another is to use a card like Swords of Concealing Light or Book of Moon (or Tsukyomi) to wipe the field of all of your opponent's monsters, provided you have the hand to do it. (Night Assailant is a good choice here) Otherwise, there isn't much else.

Destroying face-down monsters is a very useful effect. An ATK of 2100 can take care of a lot of commonly-used 4-star monsters, but watch out for Black Luster Soldiers. But anyway, you can always take out the face-down monsters your opponent is probably setting against this. D. D. Assailants and D. D. Warrior Ladies are probably going to get in your way a lot, and destroying them before their effects go off is invaluable.

Despite these advantages, this card creates horrible hand advantage. Though you get a 1 for 1 deal, unless you use Night Assailant or Sinister Serpent, most of the time, you may just be destroying something that this card can attack and destroy anyway. If you have no cards in your hand, you can't use this card, and personally, I'd rather summon a monster I'd draw then discard it for this. However, to each one's own, so if one would rather be safe, one should destroy any face-down monsters with this. Just don't feel pressured to always use this effect, as sometimes, you won't need it.

When playing this, definitely use Sinister Serpent, as with all XYZ fusions, or preferably, Night Assailant to spam this effect. And again, don't feel pressured to destroy every face-down monster. After you see two or so Magician of Faiths, D. D. Warrior Lady, and D. D. Assailant, there isn't much else to worry about. 2100 ATK can take out a vast majority of cookie-cutter 4-stars.

It should be devastatingly apparent that an XYZ deck is the only deck for this card. Anywhere else, it's unusable.

Ratings:
Traditional: 2/5. Won't stay on the field too long here"¦
Advanced: 3.5/5. There is a lot of field removal here too, so just be careful.
Limited: 3/5. Not much to do with it here.
Sealed: 2/5. Again, there are better options here.
