If anyone knnows about this event, I would appreciate if you could tell me if the location info is correct. UDE lists it as taking place at the Polk County Convention Complex while the Pastimes website lists it at the Iowa Events Center using the same address. Are these the exact same place or is thier an error here somewhere?

The important thing here is the address...which is correct and the same location the last few regionals and Pre-Releases have been held at. I hope to see you there.

I've notied that on all the UDE listings the Head Judge and the TO are the same each and every time. Not sure if that info is accurate which is why I haven't been including it in the main posts.

Until Alan fires me I'm the head judge for all events he runs in Iowa.....and I do so adore it that I'm able to pick my own crew of judges as well!

ROFL, yeah, I was just wondering about that. Like if it had something to do with you testing a few people or not.

Will Alan be showing up at this regional??

As you well know Alan is the PTO of a good many major events all over the midwest most any weekend, not just for UDE but for Wizards of the Coast as well.

He tries to stop by each location he holds major events in at least once a year. I'm not aware that this is one he's planning on visiting this go-around.

Well, I hope to meet him at this event. Just so he knows who the judge that bugged him about getting his first chance to judge at an event (CRV event btw). Heheh, plus I just want to meet the man at least once in person.

Btw John, my whole team is coming to the event as all. =)

I am rather looking forward to this event, mostly to meet lots of people and see all the different types of decks they play (although I will probably end up against multiple versions of the same deck (Mobius/Cyber Dragon/d.d.assailant...)
Look out for the man with an English accent!

I believe I met you at the last regional in Iowa...there can't be THAT many people with a distinct english accent at an Iowa regional tournament! <soft chuckle>

I have noticed a certain sparcity of Brits in Iowa also... especially playing whilst Yugioh.

Yes, we did indeed meet. You told me about this site, and here I find myself... :)

Thank you...and we work hard to keep it that way.
I think the only other Brits I've met in the area came here to Cedar Rapids to work for Rockwell-Collins.

Last time we met you were playing a interesting and unusual deck (for a regional tournament that is) Have you come up with anything new to try or will you be sticking with the same deck? Not to worry....I'm not going to blurt out what it was you played ;)

I'm quite happy to discuss that which I played last time ;)

I was running a variant on a Gravekeeper/End of Anubis deck, with a cyberstein option which tended to Backfire most of the time. That said, it was fun, I had fun and I ended up 25th (or thereabouts).

I will be trying something quite different this time, partially inspired by one of the more unusual decks I played against at the last regional. Definately not a generic CC deck at all! I will be playing a number of cards that seem underused or neglected, and hope to change some paradigms and awaken people to an alternative view (for a regional anyway). I'll probably post it on the deck forum after saturday.

I wish I could travel more. I would love to see some of these events you guys and John seem to attend frequently. I would like to see some the interestign deck types, that appear to circulate around your meta, in action. Perhaps when I make my first million. Okay, I still got to make my first thousnd, but at least I'm getting there. :D

Des Moines, Iowa is hardly the centre of the universe... The nearest Shonen Jump tourney was around 6 hours away in chicago, and that was too far for me to make. If there wasnt anything in Des Moines I probably wouldnt even go to regionals.

In some ways I am lucky in that many of the people at my local store seem to thrive on making and playing unusual decks. Plenty of collaboration and constructive comments, and most of us are not keen on the cookie cutters either.

:D True. But I'm from NC. The one hour drive to Charlotte is like a visiting Jupiter from a financial point of view. I wonder if actual rocket fuel is cheaper then Unleaded Regular. LOL :D
