2005 10th Dec, Des Moines, Iowa Regional Event

I really enjoyed the Regional on saturday.
I went 4-3 and came 28th/60, as of round 7; and had much fun doing so.

Many decks were the standard netdecked variants (Cyber Dragon/D.D. Assailants/mobius), including most of those I ended up against. But I did play against a spellcaster deck, and saw a blue-eyes fusion deck and an exodia/necross deck in action. Personally, I played a Gyaku-Gire Panda/Inaba White Rabbit/Lockdown deck much to the astonishment of my opponents and many people watching.
This even led to a few choruses of Kill the Wabbit Elmer Fudd style from certain spectators who will remain nameless...

I have posted my deck in the deck forums if anyone wants a look.

english chef is my HERO! <huge grin> I love the audacity of this man to play something completely unexpected.

A scenario I witnessed as I walked by his matches...

E.C. has Gravity Bind active along with Poison Fangs. Opponent has Jinzo in attack position. E.C. summons Innaba White Rabbit and attacks directly for 700 lp (add the 500 effect damage for Poison Fangs) then in MP2 activates Creature Swap giving his opponent the Innaba White Rabbit and taking control of Jinzo...of course only to get back his Spirit Monster in End Phase....all I could do not to start a wave with the other judges in appreciation of something FUN to watch!

There were numerous other such entertaining scenarios....thanks english chef for making my day interesting!

Ah, thank you <embarrassed>.
There seemed to be quite a bit of interest in my deck- many of the teenagers there just couldnt believe that a totally non-meta deck played so well. They also became so frustrated when they got hit with Spatial Collapse and couldnt do a thing about it...
I just hope that I inspired a few people to think outside the box and look at cards and combos that they might not have previously considered. Whether this will actually happen, I don't know, but I can hope.

<giggling as well as a 44 year old man can>

The look on your last opponent's face when you had him locked down...that combination of frustration and amusement at the same time....it was priceless!

It pretty much goes to prove my point. On rare occasion will a non-meta deck win a regional or higher tournament....however, it will CERTAINLY throw a monkey wrench into a couple of otherwise top 8 players plans, especially if they side deck poorly or are unprepared mentally for the variance of such a deck. If played very well, an off meta deck CAN be competitive at this and higher level tournaments.

Well English Chef I had the opportunity to sit next to you I think at least once. I was a minority as well I was the only woman playing in the tourny!
This was my 1st Regionals and I am rather pleased w/ my performance I finished 30 out of 60 remaining players. I acomplished my goal I said if all else fails I wanna be in the middle of the pack and that's exactly what I did.
My 2nd to last duel was the most exciting and grueling duel I have had my entire dueling career. I was so pumped from adreniline that I was on the point of hyperventalating or crying by the time I was done, I did the latter and I just said "I'm a girl, I can cry if I want to," and the boys all ran away quickly as soon as I got misty. What really sucked was trying to put my side deck back I had to actually pull out my deck sheet to look after awhile. But all in all I was happy to see people I hadn't seen in awhile and happy to meet new ones, I was a great regionals from my point of veiw. I'll post my deck in the Appropriate area.
