Congratulations to Adam Corn who won the 2007 USA National Championships with a topdecked Snatch Steal.
The day had it's dramas, with Max Suffridge's deck being stolen & he could not continue. Many people had their decks/cards/folders stolen. Emon got caught cheating & bribing an official, was disqualified & is now facing a 3 year ban.
His opponent is also being investigated amidst "stacking" claims made by Emon & others.

There was a lot of different varieties of Monarch decks in the top 16, but basically most (not all) was some kind of Monarch Variant/Hybrid.
Funnily enough, though, A Perfect Circle did not feature.

The Fallout from this, is that 3 more of my friends just quit tonight & a few more are contemplating it.
They are like "whats the point of playing anymore when skill means nothing? If you are not lucksacked, you are then cheated out of a win. It even happens at the top" also "whats the point in going to tourneys, if you have to keep an eye on all your stuff instead of on the duel?"
The situation is getting worse. This game & many top players are coming under close public scrutiny. We are the laughing stock of many other TCG's at this very moment.
What if Emon won & got caught cheating at Worlds? what would the rest of the world think of American Duelists & their Metagame? Point to ponder.

That is truly sad indeed. I can't say I'm surprised with any of that nonsense, but it's still sad that the community can't just step up to the plate and play fair even for Nationals.

For adults, it's incomprehensible. For young adults (how PC of me), I've often wondered where their sense of values and morality is coming from. I'd like to think that any children of mine would have been brought up well enough to not pull that BS. Cheating and stealing ... neither one will give you the satisfaction you're looking for.

I would hope that at something as large as Nationals, there would be better security. Cameras are not as expensive as they used to be. After two or three times of "reviewing the tapes" at out local store (4 cameras) we no longer have theft issues. I know it is hard to police so many, but if it can be made a priority, the game rid itself of several "bad apples". Of course, they could always get new UDE cards and keep going.

BTW, I hope your friends don't quit, especially if they are tallented enough to make to Nationals, but if they do, canI have their cards?

Nah, they didnt make nats, only regis, but they are quitting on principle. I guess it takes something like this to "hit home" the message. I think they may just stop going to tourneys or playing competitively though. A few of them were really p'd off about this however. I am also a bit annoyed & disappointed with it, but I just hope they catch every single one & ban them all for 3 years.
Imagine how many would be banned if they caught every stacker/thief who did it..
Of course, they could always get new UDE cards and keep going.
It seems as though nobody actually had the cards he needed at the time.

The majority of humans are simply greedy by nature. It's impossible to convert people from their cheating personalities to ones of good intentions and virtues. When there is something important at stake, people are willing to go to any lengths in order to achieve that prize. It's not just in the TCG world either. Just look at various new articles that contain reports of famous athletes taking drugs to enhance their performance for competitions. Look at businesses who exploit their customers and who try to drain as much cash as possible from their wallets. It's just the way the world is, unfortunate that may be.

As for stealing, if I were to do such a thing, it would probably haunt me for ages, especially if it were something of large value. During my childhood years, and coming from a poor-off background, I've been raised with good intentions and morals. It just plain sickens me that people who already have wealth, still intend on hurting and stealing from others in order to further develop their own wealth. The modern generation of children, obviously not speaking for all when I say this, are not being raised properly. They are not being taught basic moral principles.

Something I noticed last night as well during a dinner at a hotel with relations, is that the innocence of children is gone. While this is not directly TCG related, it's still note-worthy. During the dinner, I had noticed a very young child, using a mobile phone. When I was younger, having a mobile phone was forbidden as it had to be used with responsibility, which obviously as a child, wouldn't exist until the teenager years. This lead me to remember other various stories regarding children. For example, children dealing in drugs in primary schools, children already swearing, children being involved in sexual activities, children wearing inappropriate and suggestive clothing, children watching over 18's movies. It's horrifying to imagine their parents allowing their children to do such things. From the stories being heard at tournaments, it's no surprise to hear of children stealing. It's no help either with the older generation promoting stealing and setting a bad example.

I honestly couldn't really care what the other TCGs think. I'm sure they are suffering from similar problems. Probably not as widespread but I'm sure they still exist regardless.

The only way to solve the problem would be encouraging people to set good examples I suppose. People should be more cautious with their property, or perhaps not bring any at all. Prevention is better than cure as they say. But that's only the best case scenario, it will never happen. However, having Emon as an example of what will happen to cheaters, to the rest of the players out there should be beneficial. It's up to the players to help the game solve its difficulties.

Quick question about the Deck posted: Why the Fusion Deck? There's no cards in there that use it.

I honestly do not know.lol
I just cut & pasted it off Metagame like that.
Maybe for "intimidation"..Meh, wouldnt have a clue.

Where did you hear all these events come from? The detailed report from Metagame (Sorry if I am breaking rules by mentioning sites here) does not show any of the events above

I just finished reading the metagame coverage on the US Nationals. I'm a Brazilian YGO player, and I tend to accompany big international events to compare the meta played outside my country.

And I was really looking foward to US Nationals, so I could see new and original deck ideas, and how the new FOTB cards would do in an event of such scale. And I could not be more disappointed!

Mind me, I don't mean anything against the "dozens of Monarch variant" players...but what I see is a terrible fear of losing! What matters most seems to pay tons of bucks to get *shiny cards* in a deck that's almost entirely netdecked. These guys probably don't even like the decks they're playing. But It's hard to be innovative when everyone has a Cyber Dragon/Monarch on their deck for no reason (just because they're staple cards).

Part of this I blame on Upperdeck, for letting such overused cards running loose. Just ask yourself how long are Monarchs are out there without any sort of restriction? Let's face it, this format is loading Upperdeck's safes with cash. And this only results in a bunch of "more of the same" decks, and new players scared away...

This is not a rant at all (although on a second reading...it seems so...:p)!! I'm just posting my opinion on a metagame that is practically the same for mouths! Maybe the new ban list change it all! I sincerely hope so. Or more and ore players will be bored and quit the game...

As far as metagame goes theer only goal is to document the duels and not the things going on outside the duels. I also believe that they have some thing going where they cannot post anything that may lead to people not playing the games and such actions being documented there and read by kids might just put a few people off alright.

This is exactly the kind of thing they need to document though. How else will people know to be careful. If its not documented people will continue to think its ok and will continue to do it at the rate it is currently being done at.

As for the metagame, there WAS al LOT of christal best decks. It is just that it is not as stable. I was really supprized of how it did give trouble to oponants. It is just too combo orientated and bad draws leave not enough to hold out with. The Chrystial's are just too weak. They gain effects AFTER they die and with such low stats, you loose too much and you can not hold out for your combo's.

Also, Macro/fissure/DD's did OK, just as above they rely on too many cards working together.

Monarchs and Destony decks are too explosive and pack too much power. Monarchs Like Thestalos/Riza have too much advantage need no matter which one you get.

It is sad. However, the stealing was pritty bad. a friend lost 3 Destonay Draws & Malisouses while dueling! Someone snatched from under his seat! Also, some team members were supposed to have been caught during LCR's on Friday staeling and got vidio taped! It is really bad!

It's really sad, but the price of Card Troopers, Destiny Draws, and Maliciouses are part of the reason that there's been more and more stealing lately, I'm afraid. It's really, really sad, that so many people are that desperate to feel they need to steal them and sell them off, or just steal them to use them for themselves, but it's going to be a bigger problem until the general secondary prices of these winning decks go back down in price.

It's even more sad that people have sunk so low as to spoil a game in this way, really. The secondary market really hurts this game a lot, it's too bad there's not more easily available versions of the cards everyone uses, but I know UDE is just a company trying to make money like everyone else.

Which UDE official exactly is the one that told you that he would be facing a 3 year ban?

I saw Emon last night and he told me that he was getting cheated him self.

Looking over the list the night before he stated that there was only 1 possible way for his opponent to get a constant Treeborn, and thats with a bent HL Sangan.

Emon him self isnt the type of person to cheat in a game, I know i've played him multiple times before in MTG aswell as Yugi back when i used to play. Not to mention that boy can get anything he wants... You think that a tourney prize means anything? he goes to more tournaments than you probably go to. He was pointed out as cheating when there is no certanty that he was and that the opponent wasnt either.

eh... tought luck on his part is how i see it.

As this news gets to the general public (those who don't regularly check the forums) the game will definitely be hurt more than it already has been.

A sad day indeed. You would never catch Daniel Negreanu cheating. Maybe Jamie Gold, but thats about it.

Disclaimer: Just kidding. Jamie Gold did break rules in last worlds WSOP though. You are not allowed to talk about the cards in your hand, only hint about them. He told his opponents his hands multiple times in order to intimidate them and thinking he was lying and had either worse or better, depending on the situation.
