Another good Cyber monster have come out. I think the last time a good Cyber monster was Chimeratech Overdragon. (And before that, Cyber Phoenix)
Let's look at this new monster to the Cyber family of Zane.
Cyber Vary
Light/Machine/1/0ATK/0DEF
You can choose one of the following effects to activate.
- When this card is target of attack by opponent's monster, by removing this card
from the game draw a card from the deck, and end that Battle Phase.
- Choose a face-up monster on your field and remove it from the game with this
card, draw 2 cards from your deck.
- Remove this card and a card in your hand from the game. Put a card in your
Graveyard into the top of your deck.
----
Now, the stats. Although it's a machine, being 0 ATK, it really can't be supported by Limiter Removal. And being 0ATK, it can be searched by Sangan. And being Light, you can search it Shining Angel, and it's worth the search BTW with Shining Angel. Finally another good search other then another Shining Angel, D.D. Warrior Lady, or Marshmellon.
Okay, with crap stats that's not even a dark attribute to even be used for Crush Card Virus, there HAVE to be something else of worth. There is, the effects. In fact, to make up for crap stats, it have 3 effects to choose from.
The first effect
By removing itself from play when been declared by an attack of your foe, you draw 1 card and end the battle phase.
Now this is just pure annoyance wall. Although it's 1 turn only, you still end your foe's battle phase. And although you lose this monster, you draw 1 card so it's a +0 no loss for you. Does this mean your foe have to play something like Smashing/Fissure for a 0ATK monster? Now that's a waste. So they have to waste a turn. That really sucks for your foe. (seriously, they won't destroy this face-up card by a card effect unless they got a game winning hand) Because of this effect, beiong searched by Shining Angel isn't a bad thing. If your getting bombarded by something like Hydrogeddon or some other swarms of high ATK monsters, search this out and end that battle phase so you don't have to take more LP damage plus a free draw.
So it's a wall, what else.
By removing this card and another face-up monster on your field to draw 2 cards. That's another +0, you lose 2 monsters to draw 2 cards.
But you can make up the loss of a 2nd monster. you can tribute tokens. (e.g. Scapegoat) Or you can Brain Control, steal your foe's annoying monster, and remove THAT from play to draw 2. (Now that's a stupid combo) Now THAT's a +1 situation and a good field problem solver. Seriously, this effect is more annoying then you think.
The 3rd effect is removing this card and another card in your hand, to search out any card in you grave and put it on top of your deck. This is A Feather of a Phoenix. Same thing. You lose 2 cards for a good search effect. If you really want something in that grave, I guess use it but IMO, not too good of a use IMO.
And finally, all that removal, well, there's a card call Dimension Fusion and Return of the Different Dimension to make your loss no problem at all.
IMO, use it for the first 2 effect. The last 3rd effect won't barely be used. This card is pretty much a stall+draw annoyance monster. And for that, it's good.
In the end, I give this card a
8.5 out of 10
Very versatile. I guess that's why it's called Cyber Vary. Expect quite alot of this card in a stall deck, deck that runs shining angel, or machine deck.
However, it lacks a punch of being a game-winning card, or stalling for long periods of time.
