Force the activation of 1 face-down Trap Card. If the timing of the activation of the Trap Card is incorrect, negate the effect and destroy it. If it is not a Trap Card, it is returned to its original position. After this card is activated, it is placed into the Deck (not the Graveyard). Then shuffle the Deck.

Through discussion on The Lair the subject came up of weather a person could activate Chain Detonation (if this card is chain link 2,3, or 4) and then chain Emergency Provisions sending it to the graveyard....and have Chain Detonation still return to the hand / deck from the graveyard.....that was the orgiinal question anyway.

This caused me to, for the first time really take a look at Bait Doll's effect of being shuffled back into the deck and exactly when it is that occurs. There are no ruling guidelines addressing this....does Bait Doll go immediately to the deck after activation....before it can be chained to with, say, MST? If the empty shell of the card Bait Doll remains on the field after activation and it is chained to with MST would MST send it to the graveyard before it returns to the deck?

I'm assuming that IF either one of these cards were sent to the graveyard before they returned to the hand / deck the would not then be added to the hand / deck....just too many questions in regard to when the return portion of the effect actually takes place....any insights?

Returning to the hand or deck is part of the effect. If it is destroyed before it can resolve, it won't go back to the hand or deck. I believe there are rulings on that for "Bait Doll". I'll try to find them.

Thanks for searching that out folks. So the return to the hand / deck with both cards is part of resolution. As I said, I'd already assumed that if destroyed and sent to the graveyard it wouldn't return to the hand / deck....basically just was curious as to when the return portion of the card effect took place.
