Bait Doll - LONEN096

In this thread, I will talk about the LON-card named Bait Doll. It is a Normal Spell Card, with the following text:

Force the activation of 1 face-down Trap Card. If the timing of the activation of the Trap Card is incorrect, negate the effect and destroy it. If it is not a Trap Card, it is returned to its original position. After this card is activated, it is placed into the Deck (not the Graveyard). Then shuffle the Deck.

There aren't as much rulings as with other cards, but they are still a bit much:
  1. If "Bait Doll" is activated and targets an "Imperial Order" the opponent may chain the "Imperial Order" which will negate the effect of "Bait Doll" and it will not be returned to your Deck. Or the opponent can allow "Bait Doll" to force the activation of "Imperial Order", and "Bait Doll" will be shuffled into the Deck and "Imperial Order" will remain active on the field because the timing of its activation was legitimate.
  2. If "Bait Doll" is activated and targets "Magic Jammer", "Magic Drain", etc. the opponent may chain the Trap Card to negate and destroy "Bait Doll". If he / she does not, the Trap Card will be destroyed since the activation timing is incorrect, and "Bait Doll" will be shuffled into your Deck.
  3. You cannot chain to a Trap Card that was forced to activate by the effect of "Bait Doll" since an existing Chain is in the middle of resolving.
  4. If "Jinzo" is face-up on the field and the effect of "Bait Doll" forces the activation of a Normal or Counter Trap Card, that Trap Card's effect is negated and the Trap Card is destroyed. If a Continuous Trap Card is forced to activate by the effect of "Bait Doll" it will remain face-up on the field meaninglessly until "Jinzo" is destroyed.
  5. If the target of "Bait Doll" is no longer on the field (if it was sent to the Graveyard with "Emergency Provisions", or destroyed by "Mystical Space Typhoon", as a chain to the activation of "Bait Doll"), then "Bait Doll" is still shuffled back into the Deck. As long as the activation and effect of "Bait Doll" are not negated, the effect of "Bait Doll" that shuffles it back into the Deck still resolves.
  6. [Re: Judgment of Anubis] You can activate "Judgment of Anubis" and select a Spell Card that negates the activation of a card and destroys it, like "My Body as a Shield" or "Bait Doll".
  7. [Re: Kozaky's Self-Destruct Button] If "Bait Doll" targets "Kozaky's Self-Destruct Button", nothing happens because the timing is inAppropriate. However, "Kozaky's Self-Destruct Button" is then destroyed by "Bait Doll".
  8. [Re: Serial Spell] If you chain "Serial Spell" to "Bait Doll", the entire effect of "Bait Doll" is applied and "Serial Spell" is also shuffled back into your Deck.
  9. [Re: Tornado Wall] "Tornado Wall" may be Set on the field if "Umi" is not on the field, but it cannot be activated. If targeted by "Bait Doll" when face-down and "Umi" is not on the field, it is destroyed.
In my opinion, it is a very underrated card. Since the YU-GI-OH TCG today has many trapcard-staples, that are meant to beat the opponent in the Battlephase, Bait Doll will have a chance to make a good deal for you. It can beat your opponent, by *the opponent starts crying, because a Bait Doll destroyed his Mirror Force*.

As you can see of this joke-meant example, Bait Doll has the ability to destroy cards that have tremendous power :D. Examples: Mirror Force, Magic Cylinder, Draining Shield (it isn't quite tremendous power, but it is annoying), Sakuretsu Armor, ... (think of more cards yourself, there are way much Trap Cards that are used in the Battlephase or other cards that need a specific moment).

Heck, it can even destroy a Call of the Haunted ;).

That happened once in the 3rd turn of one of my duels: I used Bait Doll on a set ST, it turned out to be Call of the Haunted. The opponent had no monsters in his grave, so because of the incorrect timing, it was destroyed.

Pro's:
- You don't have to discard for it
- It can destroy the most Trap Cards that are around
- It will be shuffled back into the Deck, instead of being sent to the Graveyard
- It is actually quite easy to get
- Even if it is a Spell Card, you will still know the card you targeted. It will be some helpfull information later.
- It can be an unexpected card to destroy your opponents Trap Cards

Con's:
- For example, look at ruling number 7. You won't like that, if your Bait Doll destroys a card that will inflict damage to your LP.

I would give it a 3/5 in a advanced Deck, for traditional a 1.5/5, since in traditional there are more ST-removal cards then in advanced.
... And the graphics: a 1/5 for the fact they tried to make it look like nice

I hope you enjoyed and liked this review,
With kind regards,

just got back from houston regionals with [ycard="LON-EN096]Bait Doll[/ycard] main decked and all i can say is that its alot better then n.o.e. i do run all the staple m/t removal execpt for dust only cuz i rather have instant trap removal then having to wait one turn to get rid of any traps. the only con i saw to having [ycard="LON-EN096]Bait Doll[/ycard] instead of dust was getting rid of snatch cuz i didn't have mst but other then that my deck gets rid of any thing else they dish out

Ricencracker, just one word of advise: as the writer of this review, and user of [ycard="LON-EN096]Bait Doll[/ycard] myself, I'd like to advise you ONE thing: [ycard="LON-EN096]Bait Doll[/ycard] should NEVER try to replace things like [ycard="SD3-EN015]Mystical Space Typhoon[/ycard] or [ycard="SD2-EN024]Dust Tornado[/ycard]. [ycard="LON-EN096]Bait Doll[/ycard] is a tool that will secure you a bit more against traps. Opposing to what some people say, it isn't a useless card. However, the way you tried to use it isn't also perfect...
*not meant personal, just a bit of advise*
