my question is regarding BAIT DOLL

i currently use this card in my skill drain deck...
my question is: if i activate this card and target a face down [i.e.] (sakuretsu armor)and destroy it... does the bait doll go to the graveyard after the effect resolves or does the card go back to my deck? the reason i ask is because a friend told me that bait doll is returned to my deck only when used against a face down spell.
is he correct?

Your friend is wrong. I think the answer to your question is found in the rulings:

After this card is activated, it is placed into the Deck (not the Graveyard). Then shuffle the Deck.

Also, I don't know if it's maybe been errated, but the current text reads:
Force the activation of 1 face-down Trap Card. If the timing of the activation of the Trap Card is incorrect, negate the effect and destroy it. If it is not a Trap Card, it is returned to its original position. [yh]After this card is activated, it is placed into the Deck (not the Graveyard).[/yh] Then shuffle the Deck.
Doesn't say anything about whether it successfully destroyed a trap or not. If it was activated, it returns to the deck, unless destroyed by something else mid-chain.

So if it was activated in response to a MST or similar card effect.... would it go back to the deck by its own text before MST could destroy it, or would MST say "hey wait a minute" and send Bait Doll to the GY?

Figured I would ask this as a clarification... since you had mentioned "destroyed by some effect mid-chain" in the reply.

Honestly I don't play YGO anymore... I converted to WOW but I remember using the Doll many times when I did play. :D

Well, in the instance that it's chained to the effect trying to destroy it, then it's going to resolve before MST and return to the deck before MST resolves. But if Bait Doll was activated first, and then MST chained to it, then MST is going to resolve first and destroy it before Bait Doll can resolve.

Highlighted section states "After the card is activated, return it to the deck..." Would it actually matter where in the chain an MST occurs if the doll returns to the deck upon activation regardless if the effect resolves?

"After this card is activated" doesn't mean immediately after, it means after activation during resolution. It's an effect just like everything else, and would still have to follow the chain rules before returning to the deck.

Bait Doll only returns itself to the Deck if it is still face-up on the field when its effect resolves. It returns itself to the Deck during its resolution.

A chained Mystical Space Typhoon (i.e. resolving before Bait Doll) would destroy it, therefore it would no longer be on the field when its effect resolved, and so couldn't return itself to the Deck.

So if it was activated in response to a MST or similar card effect.... would it go back to the deck by its own text before MST could destroy it, or would MST say "hey wait a minute" and send Bait Doll to the GY?

Well, in the instance that it's chained to the effect trying to destroy it, then it's going to resolve before MST and return to the deck before MST resolves. But if Bait Doll was activated first, and then MST chained to it, then MST is going to resolve first and destroy it before Bait Doll can resolve.
Just to make sure these posts don't cause any confusion, Bait Doll is a Normal Spell Card so it can't actually be chained to anything :)

WOW.... shows how long it's been since I've played...

Almost as discouraging as seeing the original G1 Transformers Devastator being sold in walgreens under a bargain brand for 6 bucks. (All 6 ORIGINAL Constructicons)
