I looked the card up in netreps card registry but it is still unclear to me what kind of damage can be negated (inflicted to your opponent) by the effect of barrel behind the door. Can it be used against effects of effect monster cards? And when? Cen it save me of the damage from CED or needle burrower? :|

DIrectly from RONIN

"¢ "Barrel Behind the Door" vs. "Relinquished" - "Barrel Behind the Door" may be used against the damage-inflicting effect of "Relinquished". [ARRJ]

"¢ "Barrel Behind the Door" vs. "Dice Jar" - "Barrel Behind the Door" may not be used against "Dice Jar" as it is unknown where damage will be inflicted at the activation of the effect of "Dice Jar". [ARRJ]

"¢ "Barrel Behind the Door" must chain directly to the source that will inflict damage. [ARRJ]

"¢ "Barrel Behind the Door" may only be used against effects that will definitely inflict damage to the controller of "Barrel Behind the Door". [ARRJ]

"¢ "Barrel Behind the Door" may not be used against the effects of Continuous or Equip Spell Cards or Continuous Trap Cards. [ARRJ]

"¢ "Barrel Behind the Door" may not be used against the effects of Continuous Monster effects. [ARRJ]

"¢ "Barrel Behind the Door" may not be used against effects that result in loss of Life Points (as opposed to damage) or that redirect damage. [ARRJ]

That ruliing simply means that Barrel Behind the Door cannot be used against a card such as (if there are any other ones) The Immortal of Thunder, which says "you lose 5000 Life Points." Losing 5000 Life Points is different than taking 5000 damage, so yes, you can use Barrel Behind the Door against your opponent's Chaos Emperor Dragon.

Simply putting what he just said, Barrel cannot be chained to the effect of paying life points.

You can not chain it to Solemn Judgment's pay cost, you can not chain it to Imperial Order's pay cost, you can not chain it to Mirror Wall's pay cost, you can not chain it to CED's pay cost (but to CED's effect itself you can).

You can only counter effects that deal direct damage to your LP, and most that say so include the words "inflict" in their effects. Barrel Behind the Door was most commonly used with a combo with Ring of Destruction. Say you activate Ring on their Dark Ruler Ha Des, and ask if they wish to respond, if they do not, you can then chain your Barrel to Ring and they would end up taking your end of the Ring as well, so they end taking 2450 X 2 = 4900 directly from your combo there.

Remember, that Barrel cannot be chained to another Barrel, Barrel Behind the Door is simply redirecting the damage, it is not dealing the damage itself, the initial card in the chain is doing that.

Explanation... for something...

Barrel Behind the Door must chain to an effect that does damage. It ALSO does no damage by itself, no damage at resolution. Instead, when the damage to you would normally be done, it is done to your opponent. If for some reason the damage is negated during the resolution of the Ring of Destruction you chained to (for example, because of a Chess Archfiend monster), there would be no damage to your opponent, even though Barrel already resolved.

my favourite combo... ring of destruction + barrel behind the door!

get out one of ur strongest monsters, destroy it with ring of D. and use Barrel's effect to save your life points, and give it to your oppenent... it's almost a one hit KO if done properly...

Immortal of thunder

I've read everything out there about Immortal of Thunder and BBTD and I as it doesn't specify BATTLE DAMAGE they should be able to work together.

Immortal of Thunder says absolutely nothing about damage. It says you *lose* 5000 Life Points, not receive 5000 Life Points of damage. This is why BBtD won't work with it.

The Immortal of Thunder
Effect Monster (Thunder / LIGHT / 4 Stars / ATK 1500 / DEF 1300)

FLIP: Gain 3000 Life Points. When it is sent from the field to the Graveyard, you lose 5000 Life Points.

Nowhere on the card does it state that The Immortal of Thunder inflicts damage. That's the key.

Granadora
Effect Monster (Reptile / WATER / 4 Stars / ATK 1900 / DEF 700)

When this monster is Normal Summoned, Flip Summoned or Special Summoned successfully, increase your Life Points by 1000 points. When this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard you take 2000 points of damage.

Similar effect except this card says that it inflicts damage rather than simply losing lifepoints. This card is Barrel-able (as it states in the rulings too).

The card must specifically say that you are taking Damage.

If you "lose Life Points", "your Life Points are reduced" or you "subtract the same number of Life Points as..." then none of these are what Barrel Behind the Door affects. The key words must be "inflict" and/or "take damage"
