*****I know this*******

If you pay half of your life points, and the number of life points you have is an odd number, then you round to the nearest whole number.

*********

1st off, do you round down or up? I just can't remember.

2nd off, can you pay half of 1? If you round down, obviously not. But if you round up, is this possible, knowing the end result will be effectively paying nothing?

Anytime you are left with half a life point, you round up. Always.

And yes, once you get to 1 life point remaining, you will effectively maintain that 1 life point as long as an effect ask for you to pay half your life points, as you can never go lower than 1 (since you can never maintain .5 LP) Life point with these type of effects.

(10 Life Points left) My opponent successfully summons Destiny Hero - Dogma
(5 Life Point left) I pay for Return form the Different Dimension to Special Summon...
(3 Life Points left) I fail to destroy Dogma
(2 Life Points left) I fail again
(1 Life Point left) I activate another Return...(let the obscureness begin)

I hate to do this, but it's killing me...

How could anyone conceivably get to one Life Point anyway?:huh
Easy. You attack or get attacked by one of those crazy monsters with the xx35 or xx25 attack/defense. Then, if you only had enough life points to leave you with say... 25 life points remaining, you pay half of that for one Solemn Judgment, leaving you with 12, then pay another half for Return from the Different Dimension, leaving you with 6, then pay another half for another Solemn Judgment, leaving you with 3, then pay for Return from the Different Dimension again, leaving you with 2, and another Solemn Judgment leaves you with a Grand Total of 1 life point.

i think my brain is acting retarded but i've never got my LP's down to where i have half of a LP or even 1 LP, lowest i've had it was like 25 so i can't really see anybody getting that low unless the run 3 rftdd and 3 solemns and use them all when they have very little LP's left

Or they also run x3 Jirai Gumo as well (and lose a couple times flipping the coin).

My buddy who made me ask the question plays a macro deck with 3x return and sides 3x solemn.....I asked him the same thing....

"How often you really think you are going to run into that situation?"
Next he told me he's been there twice, and since at that point he was unaware that decimal LP are rounded up.......he told me he has been at .125 before......I didn't ask anything else......

I don't think this example is correct. Destiny Hero - Dogma's effect only activates once, surely? Look at its text. If it was every opponent's Standby Phase, it would say so instead of saying "the next", which implies the one next opponent's Standby Phase and no others.

You used a comma where you should have used a semi-colon, even informally.

Formally, an interrogative sentence and a declaratory sentence should never be joined.

You also used the plural, present, first-person form of "be" ("are") when you should have used the singular, "am".

It's spam; I know. But when someone says nothing gets past them, I have to disagree. :)

I thought you rounded up because the rules of math have always said that when you round 1-4 rounds down and 5-9 rounds up...

There's no rounding in real math.

Its only the application of it that involves rounding, and so it's the application that decides the rounding rules.

I was going to say something, but then I Wiki'd it and found that I was taught round-to-even rounding. Wonder how that happened.

(Is Wiki'd a word?)

Anyway...would it be acceptable to just keep it at fractional life points? Going out on a limb, it might raise a problem with, say, Megamorph.
