Ok, I know if I summon lava golem on my opponent's side of the field that I can Bottomless Trap Hole it, but can my opponent. bottomless trap hole it when I special summon him on his side of the field? Technically I shouldn't even be able to Bottomless Trap Hole Lava Golem since I summoned him not my opponent.

Actually why is it even ruled that when I summon Lava Golem that I can Bottomless trap hole him, my opponent didn't summon him I did.

Bottomless Trap Hole:
When your opponent Normal Summons, Flip Summons, or Special Summons a monster with an ATK of 1500 or more, the monster is destroyed and removed from play.

Lava Golem
This monster must be Special Summoned on your opponent's side of the field by offering 2 monsters on your opponent's side of the field as a Tribute. This card inflicts 1000 points of Direct Damage to the Life Points of this card's controller during each of his/her Standby Phases. When you Special Summon this monster, you cannot Normal Summon or Set a monster during the same turn.

Where was it ruled that if you Special Summon "Lava Golem" that you can then "Bottomless Trap Hole" it? (Just asking to save me some time to look it up).

However, even from the text, your opponent can BTH a Lava Golem you Special Summoned. Note that the card doesn't mention on which side of the field the monster was summoned on, just if it were Normal, Flip, or Special Summoned.

It is in the FAQ. If you check the card registry on netrep.net (which mirrors the FAQ) it is the 4th ruling under Lava Golem.

I'm going to say it is either a translation issue or a Because Konami Said So situation.

This is why Judges get headaches... though I will just defer to the ruling that you can BTH your own special summon of Lava Golem... even if it does contradict the card. Your opponent however can BTH a Lava Golem you summon to his side of the field.

The reason I'm asking is because at a tournament I run someone tried it and thanks to RONIN I looked it up and there it was plain as day that the summoner can Bottomless Trap Hole Lava golem. I still ruled that the opponent can BTH Lava golem too because there is no reason he shouldn't be able to.

I think I'm going to have to ask the judge list.....

That is a totally garbage ruling! Just because its a monster summoned to the opponents side of the field, it was not summoned by the opponent and the card clearly states "When your opponent ..."

So is it because once the monster is summoned on the field, since it goes to the opponents side, it would then be considered "summoned" by the new owner, because the resolution of Lava's effect means he is no longer under the old owners control and therefore a legal target for BTH.

Well, looks like another case of "Use it and abuse it till they change it". I mean, I hate to say it, but that makes Lava Golem a very annoying, very useable toy for a lot of burn decks.
