Card Trader vs Dust Tornado

I looked through the forums and couldn't find the answer. If I activate card trader during my stand by phase, and shuffle the card into my deck, will I get the draw if they chain dust tornado. I would think not, but I'm just making sure.

Are they chaining to the effect of an already face-up and resolved Card Trader? If so, once Card Trader's effect is placed on the chain, it would be no different then destoying a Monster Card who's effect has just been placed on the chain. The effect is now on the chain and independant of its source. Destoying it after you activate the effect would not stop you from drawing this turn.

Note that they could activate Dust Tornado when you announce that you're going to your Standby Phase by saying "Before the end of your Draw Phase, I'd like to activate..." and keep you from ever activating Card Trader. So you should be careful to be clear about going to your Standby Phase so that they can't claim that they intended to activate it at the end of your Draw Phase when you start shuffling one card in...

You are correct. Adding the card back to your deck is a cost to activate "Card Trader's" effect.

If "Card Trader" is removed from the field before it resolves, then it's effect will not resolve. This is standard rules for Continuous Spells/Traps.

Perhaps not the best example to refer to since that is specifically referring to the activation of Continuous Cards with Continuous Effects. (The example uses Imperial Order being destroyed in a chain).

I still can't seem to find where it says the effect activated from a face-up Spell/Trap that is already on the chain is now negated because the source was destroyed. I understand why this happens for Continuous Effects from Continuous Cards. But this effect is not Continuous. That seems mechanically contradictory to me.

The example they use is meaningless...
It tells you in plain English what happens, and it doesn't make any distinction between what type of Continuous card is destroyed...

But, if you chain against a Continuous or Equip Spell Card, or a Continuous Trap Card, with "Mystical Space Typhoon" (or "Dust Tornado"), the Continuous/Equip Card is no longer active because it is destroyed, and the effect does not resolve and disappears.
I don't see how it can get any more clear than that.

I too am trying to find a chink in Simon's armor but alas!

add this to what he's saying:

If a card is negated (or, for a Continuous card, if it is destroyed in a chain), it makes no difference regarding the cost, because the cost has been paid. You do not receive a "refund" simply because your card was negated, or its effect was negated, or it was destroyed (in the case of a Continuous card).

which implies that even though the cost was paid, for Card Trader... shuffling one card into deck, the effect doesn't resolve.... since it's saying you "do no receive a "refund"... and you wouldn't be expecting a refund if the effect resolved.

Thanks Simon, still learning. It's ironic that we really do play "Simon says" here.

PS: it's easy to get confused on this when you think of the "once activated it will resolve" type of rule for non-continuous cards.
